Externship Career Services Advisor

UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus.

Purpose of the Position:

Responsible for delivering comprehensive career services to UMA’s online student population, including current students, graduates, and alumni. This role focuses on building strong employer relationships to support job placement efforts, providing personalized career counseling on resume development, interview preparation, and professional presentation. Additionally, the position oversees the identification and coordination of clinical affiliations and externship sites for programs requiring hands-on experience.

What you’ll do:  

  1. Career Guidance & Coaching: Provide personalized support to students and graduates by offering guidance on interview techniques, workplace expectations, resume writing, and professional presentation to help them prepare for successful employment.
  2. Employment & Placement Support: Assist students and graduates in securing employment aligned with their field of study or skill set. Actively engage with hiring managers to generate job opportunities, coordinate interviews, and facilitate successful placements.
  3. Externship Coordination: Collaborate with externship coordinators and site administrators to ensure a smooth transition into externship experiences. Contact potential sites to promote timely completion of required documentation and support students approaching their externship phase.
  4. Employer Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong relationships with employers in assigned regions to expand job opportunities. Conduct outreach to hiring managers and employers to promote UMA graduates and create new partnerships.
  5. Compliance & Performance Management: Ensure all documentation meets institutional, federal, and accreditor standards. Develop and execute strategic plans to meet employment goals, consistently achieving or exceeding monthly placement metrics.
  6.   Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • College coursework required
  • Minimum of 1 year in education, career services, staffing, customer service or sales.
  • Ability to professionally communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • Ability to contribute to a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Computer literacy/basic computer skills to effectively navigate and utilize the technology required for the role.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Associates degree or higher preferred
  • Call center experience preferred
  • Dynamic, high-energy personality with strong communication and follow-up skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Microsoft Teams.

Compliance: 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and carefully follow all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, state regulations, and internal policies and procedures.   
  • Effectively communicate compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and quickly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.

Work Environment/Physical Demands: 

  • This is a remote position. 
  • Home office set up, quiet place to work, and ability to hard wire into high-speed internet connection. 
  • May require setup of computer equipment; accommodation consideration available upon request. 
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as needed. 

Anticipated starting salary is based on experience and qualifications.

Compensation Range

$22 - $22 USD
