Architect and Designer Sales Representative
OVERVIEW
The A&D Representative is responsible for driving sales growth by promoting UMI Stone products to the architectural and design (A&D) community. This role focuses on building strong relationships with architects, interior designers, specifiers, and design firms to secure product specifications for residential, commercial, and multi-family projects. The A&D Rep serves as the primary liaison between the design community and the company, ensuring product awareness, education, and preference in all phases of the design and construction cycle.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Relationship Management
- Build and maintain relationships with architects, designers, and specifiers to drive product awareness and loyalty.
- Identify new business opportunities through networking, industry events, and market research.
- Become a trusted resource for design professionals by providing consultative support on material selection and application.
Product Education & Specification
- Conduct presentations, “lunch & learns,” and CEU (continuing education unit) programs to educate the design community on horizontal and vertical applications, performance benefits, and technical information.
- Ensure company products are specified in design documents, drawings, and project bids.
- Act as a subject matter expert on surfacing trends, technical data, and sustainability attributes.
Sales Support & Project Tracking
- Collaborate with the sales and fabrication teams to follow projects from specification through installation.
- Track and manage project pipelines using CRM tools, ensuring timely follow-up and conversion.
- Provide market feedback on product performance, trends, and competitor activity.
Marketing & Brand Promotion
- Represent UMI Stone at trade shows, design expos, and industry networking events.
- Partner with marketing teams to execute local campaigns and showcase company products in design libraries and showrooms.
- Maintain sample libraries and ensure up-to-date product collateral is available for clients.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Interior Design, Architecture, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of sales experience in the building materials, surfacing, construction or design industry (countertops, flooring, tile, or related).
- Strong network within the A&D community is a plus.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills; ability to deliver CEU courses and product demonstrations confidently.
- Proven ability to influence specifications and close projects.
- Proficiency in CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and virtual presentation platforms.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Performance Metrics
- Number of specifications secured.
- Growth of project pipeline in assigned territory.
- Revenue generated from specified projects.
- Number of CEU presentations and design firm engagements delivered.
- Market share growth within the A&D channel.
