EVERYONE IS WELCOME HERE

At Uncommon Goods, we believe we're all out of the ordinary. That's why we're committed to making diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging part of everything we do. We strive to make significant changes to our business, from how we find our products to how we build and cultivate our team—so we can be everyone's favorite place to work.

We are an equal-opportunity employer. If you would like to request any accommodation during the application process, please email people@uncommongoods.com.

About the Role

As an Associate Designer, you’ll bring joyful, highly personal product ideas to life through original artwork, surface design, and collaboration. You’ll ideate and design eye-catching, on-brand products that customers haven’t seen before—but instantly feel a connection to. Think unique gifts that make someone say, “That’s so me.”

This role blends strong 2D illustration and design skills with an ability to think in 3D—how will your design look on a physical product? You’ll work closely with Product Development, Merchandising, and external artists to craft products that feel thoughtful, emotional, and completely Uncommon.

What You'll Do

  • Design with impact: Generate original product concepts and surface designs across multiple categories.
  • Create artwork: Develop graphics, packaging, and design elements within established brand guidelines.
  • Think like a maker: Understand how artwork interacts with real materials—laser cutting, ceramics, wood, textiles, and more.
  • Collaborate creatively: Partner with internal teams and external designers to refine and execute concepts.
  • Manage the details: Create clear design briefs, provide feedback, and work closely with vendors to ensure designs are both beautiful and feasible.
  • Present your work: Share your ideas with the Product Development team and Merchants, gathering input and refining accordingly.
  • Support licensed designs: Help bring licensed product ideas to life with thoughtful, on-brand artwork.

About You

You're a visual storyteller with an eye for detail, a strong sense of style, and a deep love of the creative process. You're energized by collaboration and love turning ideas into tangible things that people cherish. You know how to pivot when production hits a snag and are just as comfortable brainstorming big ideas as you are nudging a design into pixel-perfect shape. You value collaboration and adaptability, seamlessly balancing artistic vision with practical execution.

You bring:

  • A bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Illustration, or a related field—or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a design or product development role.
  • A strong illustration portfolio (send it our way!).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Working knowledge of layout, typography, and visual storytelling.
  • Bonus points for experience with 3D product design or licensed product development.
  • Even more bonus points if you’ve worked with materials like wood, ceramics, or textiles—or are curious to learn.

Portfolio Required

Please include a portfolio showcasing your illustration and design skills, especially examples where artwork was applied to physical products or packaging.

Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
