Ethics Attorney
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Ethics Attorney to provide expert guidance and support to attorneys and staff on ethical issues that arise in client matters. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of professional conduct, state bar rules, and regulations governing the practice of law. This role is essential to ensure that the firm adheres to the highest ethical standards and compliance with legal and professional regulations.
Responsibilities
- Provide timely and accurate guidance to attorneys and staff on ethical issues, including conflicts of interest, confidentiality, and attorney-client privilege
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of client matters to ensure compliance with ethical standards and regulations, including state bar rules, ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, and immigration law standards
- Develop and implement firm-wide policies and procedures to promote ethical conduct, ensuring compliance with legal and professional standards. This includes conflict-check procedures, confidentiality protocols, and client intake processes
- Identify potential ethical risks and vulnerabilities within the firm's operations and client matters, and design strategies to effectively mitigate and manage those risks
- Offer advice to clients on ethical considerations, including informed consent, confidentiality, and the duty of zealous representation
- Monitor compliance with ethical standards and firm policies through regular audits, reviews, and assessments of attorney conduct, staff behavior, and client files
- Advocate for and uphold ethical principles and professional standards within the firm, and in interactions with clients, opposing counsel, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders
- Assisting with bar complaints responses
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and a valid state bar license
- In-depth knowledge of ethics rules, state bar regulations, ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, and legal standards in criminal defense and immigration law
- Proven experience in handling legal and ethical issues within law firm settings
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating excellent attention to detail and sound judgment in challenging situations
- Strong interpersonal skills
Salary Range: $90,000 to $120,000
