Retention Specialist I

As a Retention Specialist I, you’ll play an important role in keeping patients engaged in their care by helping overcome barriers, preventing appointment cancellations, and reconnecting with patients when appointments need to be rescheduled.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in sales, retention, or customer service who is a strong communicator, solution-oriented, and motivated by helping people take the next step in their healthcare journey.
Who You Are
You’re a confident and compassionate communicator who knows how to listen, identify concerns, and find solutions. You’re comfortable having conversations that require persistence and problem-solving while ensuring every patient feels heard and supported.
You bring:
- High school diploma or GED required; some college preferred
- 1–2 years of sales or retention experience required
- Healthcare experience preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- A dependable approach with reliable attendance and punctuality
- The ability to handle sensitive patient information with professionalism and confidentiality
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Retention Specialist I, you’ll work directly with patients to reduce appointment cancellations and reconnect those who have cancelled. Your responsibilities will include:
- Receive inbound calls from patients who are considering cancelling appointments
- Use thoughtful retention techniques to understand patient concerns and identify potential solutions
- Help patients navigate barriers and reschedule appointments when needed
- Make outbound calls and communicate with patients via phone, email, and text
- Re-engage patients who have cancelled appointments and help reconnect them with care
- Accurately track and document patient interactions in the EMR and Salesforce
- Protect the confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA and UVVC policies
- Demonstrate and promote UVVC’s Core Values: Understanding, Nurturing, Ingenuity, Trust, Excellence, and Diversity
- Support additional Patient Engagement initiatives and responsibilities as needed
