The Associate Director, Business Development is a market-facing leadership role responsible for hiring, the day-to-day performance, coaching, and development of a team of Physician and Clinical Liaisons (PLs) within an assigned market or set of markets. This role is the primary in-market point of contact for the BD team — running ride-along, reinforcing referral growth strategy in the field, and ensuring consistent execution against KPIs. The Associate Director owns market execution and team leadership, in support of the enterprise-level BD strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Hire, lead, and develop a team of Physician Liaisons within assigned market(s) to drive referral volume and market share growth.
- Conduct regular field ride-alongs to observe, coach, and reinforce best practices in physician and referral-source engagement.
- Monitor individual and team performance against consult, referral, and activity KPIs; provide real-time feedback and course-correction.
- Serve as the day-to-day people manager for PLs — performance management, scheduling, onboarding support, and retention of top talent.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition on screening and interviewing for open PL roles within the market.
- Build and maintain strong local relationships with referring physicians, specialty clinics, and community partners to support the PL team's growth efforts.
- Ensure consistent CRM (Salesforce) usage, lead follow-up, and data hygiene across the market team.
- Reinforce national BD strategy, campaigns, and messaging in the field as directed by the VP, Business Development — without independent authority to set or change strategy.
- Escalate market trends, competitive intelligence, and team needs to the VP, Business Development.
- Demonstrate and promote a work culture committed to UVVC’s Core Values: Understanding, Nurturing, Ingenuity, Trust, Excellence, and Diversity.
- Demonstrate behaviors that are consistent with UVVC’s Standards of Conduct as outlined in our Employee Handbook.
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with UVVC policies, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other applicable laws and regulations. PHI is a top priority of our organization.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in healthcare referral marketing, physician liaison, pharmaceutical/device sales, or related field-based business development.
- 1+ years of experience directly leading or coaching a field sales/liaison team preferred.
- Proven track record of building physician and referral-source relationships that convert to measurable volume growth.
- Strong coaching and people-leadership skills; comfortable delivering realtime, in-field feedback.
- Working knowledge of CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and comfort with performance/KPI reporting.
- Ability to travel frequently within the assigned market for ride-alongs and physician meetings.
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience.
- Dependable; able to meet reliable attendance and punctuality standards.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must show proof of (and maintain) minimum personal auto insurance coverage of $100,000 for bodily injury liability per person, $300,000 for bodily injury liability per accident, and $50,000 for property damage liability.
Total compensation is based on experience and may include base salary, bonuses, and other incentive pay.
Compensation
