Senior Customer Integration Engineer

United States

Job Title: Senior Customer Integration Engineer

Department: Product Delivery

About the Role: The Senior Customer Integration Engineer combines hands-on integration engineering with customer-facing technical leadership in multi-organization healthcare environments, working with state agencies, HIEs, EHR vendors, and implementation partners to determine how systems interact and exchange data. The position supports integration delivery across customer projects, including enterprise initiatives involving multiple systems, organizations, and technical stakeholders. The engineer is expected to understand how individual integrations fit within broader customer initiatives, identify technical dependencies, and provide technical guidance. For designated customers, the role may involve sustained technical engagement across multiple initiatives while continuing to support other integration projects.

What You'll Do:

  • Apply systems thinking to understand how applications, data flows, and technical dependencies interact across customer environments, and recommend feasible integration approaches using existing platform capabilities and standards.
  • Configure, implement, test, and troubleshoot healthcare integrations involving REST APIs, FHIR, authentication protocols, database-backed configurations, and secure data exchange.
  • Provide ongoing technical consultation for designated customers, maintaining continuity across integration initiatives and evolving requirements.
  • Lead and participate in technical discussions with customer IT teams, enterprise architects, technology vendors, and implementation partners to understand the broader technical environment and guide integration decisions.
  • Analyze internal and external technical specifications, API documentation, FHIR Implementation Guides, payloads, and application logs to validate integration approaches and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and implementation teams to investigate technical issues, address integration requirements, and identify product dependencies.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including integration configurations, data flows, and implementation decisions.
  • Develop scripts, reusable utilities, and automation to improve integration testing, troubleshooting, and delivery efficiency.

You’re a great fit for this role if:

  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare integration engineering, interoperability, systems integration, or related technical implementation roles.
  • Hands-on experience configuring, implementing, testing, and troubleshooting healthcare integrations, rather than solely designing solutions or coordinating technical teams.
  • Experience independently leading or actively contributing to technical discussions with customer IT teams, architects, vendors, and implementation partners to evaluate integration approaches, identify dependencies, and explain technical options and limitations.
  • Practical experience implementing and troubleshooting integrations involving REST APIs, HL7v2, FHIR, or similar healthcare data exchange technologies.
  • Experience using SQL and relational databases for integration configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with FHIR R4, US Core, FHIR Implementation Guides, REST APIs.
  • Experience with EHR integrations, Python or JavaScript scripting, cloud technologies, and multi-organization interoperability initiatives is preferred.
  • Strong systems thinking, including the ability to understand a customer's broader technical environment, recognize how individual integrations fit together, and recommend feasible implementation approaches.
  • Experience working with AWS services or similar cloud technologies to configure and troubleshoot integrations
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent education and experience.
