Universal Design Studio is an architecture and interiors practice under the AKQA group dedicated to creating spaces that inspire and endure. Founded in 2001 by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, the studio has built an international reputation for delivering thoughtful, finely crafted environments grounded in design-led strategy and research.

Our work spans hotels, restaurants, retail, workspaces, residential, masterplanning, and the public realm, always with a focus on the people who use our spaces and how they can adapt over time. Alongside this, we’ve partnered with leading cultural institutions and delivered projects that shape how design is experienced on a global stage.

Over the past two decades, we’ve collaborated with clients such as Ace Hotel, Fortnum & Mason, Rimowa, Google, IBM, and the Victoria & Albert Museum. What connects all of our projects is a commitment to rigour, creativity, and the belief that well-designed spaces can transform the way people live, work, and interact.
