Work with UT Government and UT Government’s supported customer base to discover and mitigate cybersecurity risks through deep technical understanding and hands-on IT management. Apply advanced IT knowledge to support ATO sustainment activities, including yearly audits, system assessments, and artifact development. This role requires strong familiarity with Windows-based environments, networking topology and configuration, and enterprise-level systems administration. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work independently to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex issues while clearly communicating findings and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Perform highly detail-oriented system documentation and updates and collaborate closely with system owners and stakeholders. Leverage technical expertise to mentor and train other System Administrators in risk management, secure configuration, and vulnerability mitigation. Work with clients to translate cybersecurity policies and control requirements into actionable technical implementations that are aligned with federal compliance standards.

Additional Duties:

  • Manage and maintain the security posture for one or more systems across their entire lifecycle, emphasizing real-time patching, system hardening, and configuration management in line with organizational baselines.
  • Perform frequent vulnerability scans, interpret scan results, prioritize remediation efforts, and apply system patches and mitigations independently.
  • Own and implement IT security controls for Windows-based environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP, ensuring secure configurations.
  • Design and document secure network topologies, enforce segmentation strategies, and manage firewall and access control lists in support of secure system operations.
  • Conduct system and network troubleshooting to resolve operational and security issues proactively and independently.
  • Lead the development and updating of system security plans (SSPs), risk assessments, POAMs, contingency plans, incident response plans, and other SDLC-aligned documentation.
  • Provide oversight and delivery of Authority to Operate (ATO) packages, ensuring completeness and accuracy for submission to CISO or Authorizing Officials.
  • Lead and support FISMA and NIST 800-53 compliance activities, including recurring security audits and Continuous Monitoring (ConMon) deliverables.
  • Serve as a key technical liaison and security subject matter expert (SME) to internal and external stakeholders, including federal clients.
  • Facilitate the remediation and closure of POAM items through hands-on technical execution and documentation.
  • Review and validate logs, system events, and audit trails to detect anomalies and maintain system integrity.
  • Coordinate and lead meetings with stakeholders to present technical findings and ensure alignment with authorization requirements and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide cybersecurity support for specialized devices, physical security systems (e.g., access control, video management), and embedded platforms, when applicable.

Qualifications         

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with patch management, vulnerability scanning/remediation, and secure configuration management in Windows environments.
  • Proven experience with ATO sustainment, including creation and management of compliance artifacts, control documentation, and POAM tracking.
  • In-depth knowledge of Active Directory, Windows Server administration, and enterprise network architecture (LAN/WAN, VLANs, firewalls, routing, etc.).
  • Familiarity with NIST security frameworks (800-53, RMF), GRC tools, and FISMA/FISCAM compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and independent decision-making capabilities in dynamic IT environments.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly explain technical details to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain up to a Top Secret clearance based on client requirements.
  • Cybersecurity and/or IT certifications (e.g., Security+, CISSP, CEH, Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco) are a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of physical security systems such as access control and VMS is beneficial but not required.
  • Excel and Visio skills are a plus.
  • Travel between locations, as needed.
