About the role

Reporting directly to Managing Counsel, Compliance, and collaborating extensively with the General Counsel, the Licensing & Examination Specialist (the “LES”) will serve as subject matter expert for Unlock’s current and future licensing need with extensive knowledge of the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System & Registry (NMLS). The ideal candidate will manage and ensure compliance with state and federal licensing requirements applicable to Unlock’s home equity investment products which, while still emerging, are substantially similar to those requirements applicable to  mortgage loan originators, branch offices, and corporate entities. This role is critical in maintaining regulatory adherence and supporting business expansion efforts.  

The LES will lead the submission of new licensing applications and materials to state authorities and gather materials for renewal of existing licenses. Work with counsel to develop and adhere to strategy for licenses and renewals. Coordinate examinations including gathering and supplying materials requested by examiners.  Lead responses to examiner questions including careful review of responsive documents. Track and manage remediation if/when findings arise.

What you'll do

  • Prepare and submit applications for new licenses, renewals, amendments, and surrenders via the NMLS portal. 
  • Track and ensure timely submission of all licensing requirements to maintain compliance. 
  • Assist in onboarding home equity officers by ensuring proper licensing and registration. 
  • Ensure the timely and accurate filing of all reports, including monthly call reports. 
  • Stay updated on state and federal regulatory changes impacting licensing requirements. 
  • Process and effectively manage examination requests through establishing clear lines of communication with all stakeholders and managing to important timelines. 
  • Act as a liaison between the company, regulatory agencies, and NMLS support. 

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years of experience in mortgage licensing or regulatory compliance, with hands-on experience in NMLS managing and resolving deficiencies identified by licensing examiners during the application review process. 
  • Proficiency with the NMLS platform and associated tools. 
  • Experience in the preparation and filing of call reports. 
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. 
  • Strong and accurate analytical sense and ability to communicate effectively. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Experience working with state licensing authorities for financial services or Fintech organization is preferred.  
  • Experience working with startup or high-growth companies is preferred.

Target base compensation is $65,000 - $85,000 annually. Actual base salary varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
