Title: Director of Client Finance
Direct Manager Title: VP, Finance
The Role
The Director of Client Finance will oversee the day to day of Unlock’s marketing services client finance operations, and partner with the client account teams providing guidance on contracting, proactive monitoring of client budgets, forecasting client revenue, and reporting on client profitability. They will also partner with the teams that lead billing, client contracting, and revenue recognition. In addition, they will be responsible for generating the aggregated reports and insights to understand trends in contribution margins and implications for Company health.
The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills, demonstrated experience with financial analysis and/or accounting experience in a marketing, advertising or other equivalent professional services environment, strong Microsoft Excel and Word proficiency, a positive outlook, and excellent oral and written communication skills with willingness to partner with other department leads. The candidate will be a continual learner, always seeking to optimize and improve processes, integrations, and insights.
What You’ll Do
- Strategic Partner to the Client Account Teams
- Active involvement in the financial health of client accounts within the Marketing Services line of business; including but not limited to leading revenue recognition process and contribution margin reporting, ensuring financial transparency to clients including compliance with non standard terms, influencing pricing strategy, and managing MSAs/SOWs contracting process
- Establish client finance as a value-added business partner to client account teams
- Ensure timely client approvals and start-work authorizations to expedite revenue recognition and support audit requirements
- Developpaperwork (MSAs, SOWs) in collaboration with Client Account, Growth, and Sales team
- Establish consistent analysis of client contribution margins
- Accountability for surfacing accounts that are not achieving target contribution margin, giving Client account teams clear information required to resolve
- Active involvement in the financial health of client accounts within the Marketing Services line of business; including but not limited to leading revenue recognition process and contribution margin reporting, ensuring financial transparency to clients including compliance with non standard terms, influencing pricing strategy, and managing MSAs/SOWs contracting process
- Leading core client finance team operations, including:
- Guide team on proactive management of client procurement and finance team relationships
- Accountable for soup-to-nuts ownership of invoicing, including full quality control accountability to check invoice data across systems
- Ensuring projects are setup accurately and with client authorization
- Collections management and communications
- Lead revenue recognition preparation and decisions
- Oversee team management of client contracts
- Active maintenance of all legal agreements to ensure record keeping is clear and concise, proactive tracking of end dates
- Maintain and uphold client compliance requirements per contract.
- Assist VP, Finance with adhoc reporting.
- Guide team on proactive management of client procurement and finance team relationships
- Team Operations
- Oversee client finance team to deliver accurate and timely client billing, contract management processes, project set-up processes, client collections, and monthly revenue recognition processes
- Lead and develop the client finance team, ensuring accountability and fostering professional growth.
Ideal Qualifications
- 7-10 years finance, client accounting, accounting experience, agency media experience preferred
- Strong understanding of financial aspects of traditional and digital media campaigns
- Deep understanding of the financial processes behind traditional and digital media campaigns, including budgeting, tracking, and profitability analysis
- Experience working with SalesForce, Workfront, & NetSuite preferred
- Understanding of the healthcare industry is a plus
- CPA preferred, but not required
