About the Role:
We are looking for an Accountant to support our Flex Pay product. Working with a team of Finance, Investor, and Business Analysts in Phoenix and San Francisco, this person will play a key role in maintaining all Operational accounting tasks and records for Upgrade. The ideal candidate will also work closely with multiple Upgrade company departments to identify all necessary accruals, verify accuracy, and make recommendations to streamline current accounting processes and procedures. Candidate will have interaction with senior leadership regarding expense classification and profitability metrics and must be capable of delivering high-quality deliverables, on time, with careful attention to detail.
This role will be based in our San Francisco office in a hybrid capacity.
What You’ll Do:
- Own month-end close activities related to loan accounting, revenue recognition, and associated reconciliations
- Maintain and improve schedules for loan portfolios, servicing fees, interest income, loan sales and reserves
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with GAAP
- Build and refine Excel-based workpapers, using advanced functions such as VLOOKUPs, INDEX-MATCH, and PivotTables to analyze and present data
- Partner with cross-functional teams (Product, Operations, Engineering) to streamline processes and investigate variances
- Assist in audits and management reporting
- Assist in data validation for migration of loans over to new servicing system
- Support ad hoc analysis and special projects as needed
What We Look For:
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in public accounting OR 2+ years of corporate accounting experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience with loan accounting principles a plus
- Excellent Excel skills including vlookups, pivot tables and complex formulas
- Familiarity with ERP/Accounting systems (NetSuite, Floqast, Bill.com)
- Team-player with superior interpersonal skills who can work closely with both accounting teams and cross-functionally with relevant stakeholders
- Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Sense of ownership and responsibility towards problems and solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly and smoothly to a rapidly changing environment.
- Self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset

The compensation range of this position in San Francisco, CA is USD $70,000-$85,000 annually plus equity and benefits. Within this range, an individual's base pay will be dependent on a variety of factors, including without limitation, job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
