We’re looking for new team members who get excited about designing and delivering new and better products. Come join us and help build a better financial future for millions of people.

Growth is where Upgrade turns its mission into new customer relationships, and we're looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our amazing team of designers, product managers, marketers, and engineers. Reporting to the VP of Design, you will work on Upgrade’s newest products, including Boost Money™, BoostCash™, our mobile banking products, as well as new AI initiatives. This is high-impact work, where thoughtful design directly helps customers move in the right direction with their money.

As a Senior Product Designer, you'll play a central role in how customers discover us, sign up, and come back, from a first BoostCash™ advance to a switched direct deposit and that first cash-back reward. You'll work on projects like onboarding and eligibility, offer presentation, subscription conversion, direct deposit switching, and the end-to-end experience of an AI agent that takes care of the tedious work for the customer. As a team, we’ll measure ourselves by activation, conversion, and retention, and earn those numbers by continuously improving the experience on the customer's behalf. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on ownership, moves fast, and wants to see their work make a positive impact on our customers' finances.

Please note that this role is based in San Francisco and you'll be coming into the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as for company events. We will not convert this role to remote in the future.

What You'll Do

  • Own product design for Boost Money™, BoostCash™, our mobile banking products, as well as new AI initiatives.
  • Partner with Product, Marketing, Engineering, and Legal teams to turn vision concepts into actionable flows, prototypes, and polished experiences that ship to customers.
  • Ship, test, and iterate on design work that grows activation, conversion, and retention, and with them our base of funded, active customers.
  • Make eligibility, fees, and repayment clear the first time. Our best-performing designs are the ones customers don't have to call support about.
  • Manage several projects at once across product lines and keep stakeholders aligned.
  • Contribute to and maintain the Upgrade Design System, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency across Upgrade’s platform of products and services.
  • Mentor junior designers on Figma best practices, AI and automation, and strengthen our design team, process and culture.

What We Look For

  • 6+ years experience in Product Design with a consumer mobile focus, and a track record of owning product design end-to-end, from strategy to production, in collaboration with Product, Marketing, and Engineering.
  • Excels in an agile environment with many stakeholders, with a bias for action, collaboration, and doing the right thing.
  • Self-directed, detail-oriented, and organized, comfortable managing multiple projects at once.
  • Expert Figma skills, with a track record of mentoring junior designers on best practices.
  • Experience in fintech or another regulated consumer space; comfortable designing where legal, compliance, and privacy reviews shape the customer experience.
  • Strong portfolio of shipped case studies that demonstrate impact as an individual contributor.
  • Polished communication skills: you explain rationale clearly, influence stakeholders, and bring a principled point of view to discussions about design and the customer experience.
  • AI is already part of your process: your portfolio includes at least one project where AI and automation changed how you designed, organized, or collaborated with stakeholders on your work.
  • Eager to work in person in our San Francisco office at least two days a week.
  • Bonus: Experience with cash advance, subscription, banking, lending products, or AI-assisted consumer experiences.

The compensation range of this position in San Francisco, CA is USD $140,000 - $160,000 annually plus equity and benefits. Within this range, an individual's base pay will be dependent on a variety of factors, including without limitation, job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
