Project Accountant

The Project Accountant plays a critical role in overseeing financial operations related to construction projects. This position is responsible for managing accounts receivable, contract review processes, maintaining accurate project files, and ensuring timely and compliant billing practices. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in construction accounting principles and possess strong organizational and communication skills.
What You'll Do:
- Oversee and manage the current accounts receivable department, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions.
- Handle the contract review process from start to finish, including receipt, filing, and maintenance of executed contracts both electronically and in hard copy.
- Assist in monthly project financial reviews to ensure financial accuracy and integrity.
- Coordinate with Project Managers to obtain billing percentages, prepare and submit invoices, and update schedules of values as necessary.
- Implement and oversee the creation of work-in-progress (WIP) reports for all projects, ensuring adherence to best practices.
- Process, submit, and enter all required billing documents in the accounting system. Ensure all contracts, insurance, and necessary releases are in place before project commencement.
- Conduct reconciliation of contracts and payments, and prepare retention billing.
- Review contracts for critical information such as performance dates, invoicing terms, and compliance requirements including local sales taxes and prevailing wage rates.
- Prepare necessary close-out documentation such as warranties and final lien releases as per General Contractor requirements.
- Review and adhere to Accounting Closing List, and follow prescribed archiving procedures.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience in construction accounting or a similar role within a project-based industry.
- Strong knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
What We'll Provide:
- The annual rate for this role is $70,000-$85,000 based on the experience you bring.
