About The Role: 

Urban Sky is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Finance & Accounting Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will thrive in ambiguity, be scrappy and flexible, be willing to take on tasks both big and small and be excited about working in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment. This is a newly created role, ideal for someone eager to take ownership of building cost accounting systems and processes from the ground up. You'll lead the effort to design scalable cost frameworks that improve margin visibility across our products and programs. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Establish & Own Cost Accounting Processes 

  • Design and implement cost accounting frameworks, processes, and policies
  • Develop product level and program level P&Ls and reporting
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly inventory and cost reports
  • Analyze product and program margins, variances, BOM costs and inventory trends to support business decisions
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and government contract regulations, especially around inventory and capitalization 

Drive Inventory Costing Accuracy 

  • Improve and maintain accuracy of costs within our in-house built inventory management system
  • Monitor inventory movements to ensure accuracy of inventory balances and COGS 
  • Recommend and implement internal controls related to inventory and costing accuracy 

Integrate Cost Insights into Planning 

  • Assist with the production and purchasing planning process 
  • Integrate cost insights into financial forecasts, budgets, and pricing models 
  • Lead monthly budget to actual meetings with department heads and act as a trusted business partner to drive a culture of financial diligence 

Automate & Improve Finance Workflows 

  • Help to identify and implement system(s) to automate processes across the finance workflow, including purchasing/AP, program cost tracking, inventory system inputs, monthly close process, etc.  

Skills & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field – CPA or other relevant certifications are a plus 
  • Proven experience owning or standing up cost accounting systems or models 
  • Thorough knowledge of cost accounting and GAAP principles and standards  
  • Proficiency in financial software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail 
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex financial data effectively 
  • Proven ability to build processes and models from scratch 
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate independently 

Nice-to-Haves: 

  • Experience at an aerospace or defense tech company 
  • Experience in a start-up environment or other fast-growing company 
  • Experience with government contract cost accounting 
  • Strong knowledge of DoD contracts, SBIR programs, and DFAR regulations  

Requirements 

  • Must be US Citizen or Permanent Resident  
  • Must be located near Denver, CO or willing to relocate to Denver, CO 
  • This role is expected to be on-site at minimum 3 days per week

Urban Sky is required to post this salary range per Colorado law. Your salary will be determined based on your abilities and experience. 

Colorado Pay Transparency

$100,000 - $140,000 USD
