Urschel, a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking a dedicated and service-focused hospitality leader to join the opening team of the new Grand Gardner Hotel as Rooms Division Manager. The Grand Gardner Hotel is an Urschel Development property located in Downtown Valparaiso, IN. Urschel Development is a fully owned subsidiary of Urschel Laboratories located in Chesterton, Indiana.
Opening in the second quarter of 2026, this independent, boutique hotel is uniquely positioned on a residential tree-lined street adjacent to vibrant downtown Valparaiso. Thoughtfully designed to provide an authentic sense of place, the property will feature 58 luxurious rooms and suites, a speakeasy, banquet spaces, a boutique spa, and multiple gathering areas throughout the hotel.

The Rooms Division Manager provides comprehensive oversight of both Front Office and Housekeeping operations to ensure 100% guest satisfaction and optimal profitability. This critical leadership role is ideal for a hospitality leader who thrives in a hands-on environment and values building service culture from the ground up. This leader will provide end-to-end management of personnel, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance reviews, while maintaining rigorous service culture standards. Key accountabilities encompass revenue and yield management, budget and expense control, and the direct supervision of property cleanliness, including daily room inspections and laundry operations. The manager must demonstrate high flexibility, possessing the technical ability to perform the duties of any subordinate staff member as needed while serving as a professional point of escalation for guest and safety concerns.
The ideal candidate is a versatile and strategic leader with a proven track record in hotel operations and staff development. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Property Management Systems (PMS), and maintenance tracking software is required, along with the ability to manage complex departmental budgets. The candidate must possess the physical stamina to remain active for up to 10 hours, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and the manual dexterity to oversee industrial laundry and guest service functions. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with sales and social media teams on promotional initiatives are essential for success. Experience in a boutique or full-service rooms leadership role is highly preferred.
