Innovation & Development (I&D) Manufacturing Engineering Intern

Urschel Laboratories, INC. is seeking an Innovation & Development (I&D) Manufacturing Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to work alongside our Innovation & Development and Engineering teams on exciting projects focused on the design, development, and testing of new equipment. This internship offers hands-on experience in product development, manufacturing processes, prototyping, and engineering problem-solving while providing meaningful opportunities to contribute to real-world projects.

Urschel designs and manufactures industrial cutting equipment for food processing and allied industries worldwide from our global headquarters located in Chesterton, Indiana, U.S.A. Consumers purchase goods manufactured on Urschel cutting equipment daily. Advanced manufacturing technologies are utilized at our climate-controlled, clean, and environmentally conscious facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the design, development, and evaluation of new equipment concepts, prototypes, and engineering solutions.
  • Create and modify 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using CAD software, including SolidWorks.
  • Support prototype development by assisting with manufacturing planning, cost estimation, component sourcing, and drawing preparation.
  • Program, set up, and operate 3D printing equipment to produce prototype and test components.
  • Participate in equipment testing, machine assembly, data collection, and documentation of project results.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and other assigned projects.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate engineering program at an accredited university. Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechatronics, or related engineering majors are preferred.
  • Must be entering junior or senior standing with a minimum GPA of 2.8.
  • Experience with CAD software is required; SolidWorks experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in product development, manufacturing processes, and engineering design.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and willingness to learn through hands-on projects.
  • Effective communication, organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship and be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
