Senior Metrology Engineer
Overview
US Conec is seeking a highly skilled Senior Metrology Engineer to join our manufacturing team in Hickory, NC. In this role, you’ll lead metrology initiatives across product development, validation, and troubleshooting. You’ll work with advanced measurement equipment and software to support high-precision fiber optic components, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Support metrology group objectives including equipment maintenance, calibration, verification, and procurement
- Characterize existing equipment and assist in acquiring new metrology tools
- Develop monitoring systems to ensure equipment performance and reliability
- Create fixtures and software tools that integrate with equipment to improve efficiency
- Develop ferrule and mold metrology programs, including testing, training, and support
- Maintain documentation and control of metrology programs
- Manage databases and reporting systems for connector metrology requirements
- Collaborate with the Texas connector metrology group on recommendations and improvements
- Assist the quality department with troubleshooting issues related to metrology
- Contribute to trade secret development, documentation, and protection
- Recommend additional testing and specification updates to support product enhancements
- Document test results and perform statistical analysis using tools such as Excel, Minitab, MATLAB, and PowerPoint
- Maintain metrology labs, tools, equipment, and artifacts in a clean and organized manner
Equipment You’ll Use
- Multi-sensor high-accuracy CMMs and software
- Confocal microscopes and analysis software
- CT scanning machines and software
- SEM/AFM equipment
- Microscopes and video cameras
- Contact gauging tools (pin gauges, calipers, micrometers)
- Fiber optic connector interferometers
Must Haves
- Bachelor of Science in Metrology or Engineering discipline
- Minimum 5 years of experience in metrology engineering and precision measurement.
- Excellent communication, planning, and independent problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to plan tests and analyze results
- Strong understanding of mechanical principles and design
- Advanced knowledge of data analysis software tools and techniques
- Experience with optical systems, image processing, or precision machine design preferred
