Machining Engineer

Overview

US Conec is seeking a Senior Precision Machining Engineer to join our advanced tool & die and injection mold tooling team. In this role, you will support CNC machining, wire EDM, sinker EDM, high-precision grinding, and single point diamond turning (SPDT) operations to produce ultra-precision mold components.

This position operates at the forefront of precision manufacturing, producing injection mold tooling with tight tolerances down to ≤±1 µm. You will work with hardened tool steels and carbide, partnering closely with design engineering, metrology, and toolroom teams to ensure dimensional accuracy, manufacturability, and long-term tooling reliability across the production lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Program, set up, and optimize CNC machining centers, wire EDM, sinker EDM, and high-precision grinding equipment to achieve ≤±1 µm tolerances.
  • Develop and refine CAM programs using ESPRIT, G-code, Autodesk Inventor, and NanoCam.
  • Select grinding wheels, EDM electrodes, wire types, and flushing strategies to improve surface finish, accuracy, and cycle time.
  • Design and implement precision workholding and fixturing solutions with thermal stability and temperature compensation considerations.
  • Apply GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure dimensional conformance.
  • Collaborate with mold and die designers to adjust prints for shrinkage, true position, and manufacturability.
  • Build and qualify grinding wheels, electrodes, and fixtures for precision machining applications.
  • Perform final inspections using CMM, laser micrometers, air gauges, and profilometers.
  • Implement SPC, CPK analysis, corrective actions, and standard work procedures.
  • Lead DOE, Lean manufacturing, and Kaizen initiatives to improve process capability and reduce machining time.
  • Support toolroom operations including new mold builds, ECNs, and urgent repairs.

Must Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related field.
  • 3–7+ years of experience in precision CNC machining, wire EDM, and grinding for mold/die or high-accuracy components.
  • Proven ability to hold tight tolerances (≤±1 µm); experience with sub-micron positioning preferred.
  • Expertise in machining hardened tool steels and carbide (e.g., H13, M1, PM steels).
  • Proficiency in CAM programming, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with CMM and advanced metrology equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mold and tooling drawings and understand injection molding components.
  • Knowledge of fixture design, thermal management, and precision work holding.
  • Preferred: Experience with SPDT, Moldflow analysis, sinker EDM, and basic CNC milling/grinding.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation based on experience and precision skill level.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • Paid time off and holidays to support work-life balance.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with employer match.
  • A collaborative, innovation-driven culture.
  • Opportunities for cross-training and advancement.
  • Inclusive workplace with reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals.

Classification of protected categories is as follows:

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
