Overview

As an Engineering Technician on the US Conec Applications Engineering team, you will provide hands-on technical support for product development, process evaluation, validation testing, and laboratory activities supporting advanced fiber optic connectivity solutions. This role partners closely with Product Engineers, Process Engineers, and cross-functional teams to execute testing, analyze results, build prototypes, and help drive innovation through accurate data collection and laboratory excellence.

Responsibilities

• Execute laboratory experiments, product evaluations, process studies, and validation testing according to established test plans and procedures
• Prepare and assemble fiber optic connector samples and test articles, including fiber preparation, connector termination, epoxy processing, polishing, cleaning, and inspection
• Operate optical, mechanical, and metrology equipment to perform measurements and evaluate product performance
• Verify test setups, conduct testing, and accurately document results, observations, and data for engineering review
• Maintain sample traceability through proper labeling, recordkeeping, photographs, and organization of raw test data
• Support troubleshooting and root-cause investigations by conducting repeat testing, documenting findings, and communicating anomalies
• Create clear and detailed test summaries and reports when required to support engineering decision-making
• Collaborate with Product and Process Engineers to support prototype builds, development projects, and departmental priorities
• Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, and safety while ensuring tools, equipment, and consumables are properly managed
• Assist with basic equipment checks and help identify calibration, maintenance, or operational issues
• Continuously expand technical knowledge of US Conec products, fiber optic connector technologies, assembly processes, and laboratory best practices

Must Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity working with small precision components
• Ability to follow test procedures, work instructions, engineering drawings, and verbal direction with consistent execution
• Experience collecting, organizing, and documenting technical data with a high degree of accuracy
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, traceability, and repeatability
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work safely and efficiently in a laboratory or technical environment
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams
• Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies, processes, and testing methods

Nice to Haves

• Associate degree or technical certificate in Engineering Technology, Optics/Photonics, Electronics, Mechanical Technology, or a related technical discipline
• Two or more years of hands-on experience in fiber optic connector assembly, testing, manufacturing, or laboratory operations
• Knowledge of fiber optic connectivity products, connector assembly processes, and optical testing methods
• Experience operating optical test equipment, including insertion loss/return loss systems, optical power meters, and microscopes
• Experience using dimensional inspection and metrology equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, interferometers, or vision measurement systems
• Familiarity with ERP systems, workflow management platforms, and collaboration software
• Experience supporting product development, validation testing, or engineering prototype builds
