The Search Platform team powers the majority of PlayStation’s search functionality. We manage the indexing of diverse data, interpret queries, and deliver relevant content in a logical order—ensuring players can discover what they’re looking for quickly and seamlessly.
Our high-traffic, revenue-sensitive, and mission-critical search system is at the core of the PlayStation experience. Joining this team means working on technical challenges that directly impact both players and the business.
About the Role
As a Software Engineering Intern, you will gain hands-on experience developing features that improve content discovery, enhance the quality of search, and support one of the most critical systems at PlayStation. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers to expand your technical skills while contributing to meaningful projects with real-world impact.
What You’ll Do

Understand PlayStation's search system and develop new functionalities to improve content discovery for users

Enhance the quality and performance of the search system

Support the team in addressing and resolving issues or requests related to search functionality
What You’ll Learn

Practical experience building and improving a large-scale, distributed search platform

Exposure to modern search technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Solr)

Hands-on skills with cloud and container technologies such as AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, and Docker

Insights into leveraging AI/ML technologies like LLMs, Deep Learning, and Natural Language Processing in search systems

Collaboration and communication within a high-impact engineering team
What We’re Looking For

Current enrollment in an accredited university Master’s program, with graduation expected between December 2026 and Spring 2027

Experience programming in Java and an understanding of OOP best practices

Experience or familiarity with large-scale distributed systems

Experience or familiarity with search technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Solr)

Experience or familiarity with industry-standard technologies: AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka, Redi

Experience or familiarity with AI/ML technologies (LLM, Deep Learning, NLP) and ML development processes

Strong problem-solving skills

Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Eligibility

Students with expected graduation between December 2026 and Spring 2027 from an accredited university. Advanced Degree - Master's

Able to work during one of the following periods: May 18th - August 7th or June 15th - September 4th. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

Must be available for the entire 12-week internship period.

Our intern positions offer a fixed hourly pay rate. Please note that the pay rate is exclusive to the internship period and may not reflect what pay may look like following the completion of an internship.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
