About The Team

PlayStation Studios' Video Codecs team is responsible for the research, development, and implementation of video core technologies that drive innovation across PlayStation products and services. These technologies are widely applied in studio video game development and online game streaming services, making this a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of gaming, media, and cutting-edge video research.

What You’ll Do

As a Video Coding Machine Learning Engineer Intern, you will:

  • Contribute to the Video Codecs effort by collaborating with the Core engineering team’s encoder and decoder software developers.

  • Learn how video encoder and decoder software operate within gaming consoles and streaming services.

  • Apply ML/DL to various stages of video processing (encode, decode, pre-process, post-process, tool).

  • Share creative and innovative ideas for enhancing PlayStation video services.

  • Explore and present insights from leading academic and industrial research papers to the team.

What We’re Looking For

  • Current enrollment in an accredited university Master’s program in a related field, with graduation expected between December 2026 and Spring 2027.

  • In-depth machine learning/deep learning (ML/DL) knowledge.

  • Hands-on experience in ML/DL projects or roles, or coursework in data science and machine learning.

  • Knowledge of image/video processing technologies, frameworks, and techniques.

  • Proficiency in C, C++, and Python programming languages.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Eligibility

  • Students with expected graduation between December 2026 and Spring 2027 from an accredited university. Advanced Degree - Masters

  • Able to work during one of the following periods: May 18th - August 7th or June 15th - September 4th. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

  • Must be available for the entire 12-week internship period.

Our intern positions offer a fixed hourly pay rate. Please note that the pay rate is exclusive to the internship period and may not reflect what pay may look like following the completion of an internship.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. 

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
