At Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), data is a critical business asset that powers decision-making, drives innovation, and supports the continuous improvement of PlayStation products and services.

The Audience Platform team manages the platform that allows business users to identify and target specific “audiences” or groups of users for promotions, advertising, and marketing campaigns—helping generate revenue for Sony. As a server-side engineering team, we manage jobs and services that process large volumes of data related to user accounts, game ownership, subscriptions, and more.

About the Role

As a Software Engineering Intern, you’ll contribute to building and enhancing the systems that power PlayStation’s audience targeting platform. You’ll work on data-driven solutions that support large-scale operations, develop efficient ETL jobs, and collaborate with engineers to improve platform scalability and performance.

This role offers hands-on experience with distributed data processing, cloud technologies, and scalable backend development—all within a team focused on data quality and technical excellence.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and enhance ETL jobs that keep the Audience Platform operational and current
  • Address scalability challenges and contribute to system performance improvements
  • Present and defend technical designs; participate in team reviews and a summer hackathon
  • Analyze existing processes and propose actionable improvements
  • Participate in product roadmap discussions, identifying opportunities to strengthen the platform
  • Advocate for data quality and maintain a high standard of engineering excellence

What You’ll Learn

  • How large-scale data systems are built and maintained to support marketing and analytics
  • Hands-on experience with ETL development, distributed processing, and data pipeline optimization
  • Best practices for designing scalable backend systems in a microservice architecture
  • Exposure to technologies such as Spark and Flink, and how they’re used in data engineering
  • Experience collaborating with engineers, product managers, and analysts on impactful, data-driven projects

What We’re Looking For

  • Current enrollment in an accredited university Bachelor’s program in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or related field, with graduation expected between December 2026 and Spring 2027.
  • Broad understanding of database concepts and proficiency in at least one programming language: Scala, Java, or Kotlin
  • Strong foundation in data engineering, data structures, and software design
  • Experience working in a microservice architecture
  • Experience with Spark or Flink is a plus
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership for your work
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset

Eligibility

  • Students with expected graduation between December 2026 and Spring 2027 from an accredited university. Undergraduate
  • Able to work during one of the following periods: May 18th - August 7th or June 15th - September 4th. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.
  • Must be available for the entire 12-week internship period.

Our intern positions offer a fixed hourly pay rate. Please note that the pay rate is exclusive to the internship period and may not reflect what pay may look like following the completion of an internship.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. 

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
