About the opportunity:
The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist in Psychiatry (CPS-P) is responsible for the provision of safe, effective, and prompt psychiatric medication therapy at Vail Health. The CPS-P provides direct patient-centered care and integrated pharmacy operational services with physicians, nurses, and other clinic personnel. Pharmaceutical care services include assessing patient needs, incorporating psychiatric specific characteristics into drug therapy and patient education, adjusting care according to patient response, and providing clinical interventions to detect, mitigate, and prevent medication adverse events. The CPS-P will serve as a departmental resource and liaison to hospital psychiatry providers. They will also participate in psychiatry department clinical research and practice advancement projects as well as patient care quality and regulatory compliance initiatives designed to improve medication-use processes or pharmacy practice. The CPS-P provides medication and practice-related education/training and may serve as a preceptor for students. Participation in P&T Committee is expected with the goal of improving services by monitoring processes, analyzing new drugs, and implementing interventions to improve and evaluate medication effectiveness. Responsibilities may include working to establish and maintain long- and short-term goals for the Pharmacy Department, monitoring, and documenting quality improvement projects for progress in meeting QI goals.
What you will do:
- Provides pharmaceutical services throughout the hospital. Contributes to medication ordering system optimization, and provides accurate, safe, timely, and appropriate medication therapy based on patient age and needs. Provides oversight to staff pharmacists to make appropriate evidence-based, patient-centered medication recommendations and optimize regimens. Oversees the writing, reviewing, and updating of the EMR order sets and behavioral health regimen care plans.
- Delivers direct patient care and clinical practice, including patient education. Works as an active member of multidisciplinary team and collaborates with healthcare providers to provide patient-centered care and develop care plans. Identifies high-risk patients and implements interventions to improve quality and safety as well as educate patients about medication therapies.
- Leads assigned patient service lines, clinical areas, and therapeutic programs. Facilitates pharmaceutical care services and direct patient care programs within Vail Health to ensure drug utilization activities are aligned with patient care needs, evidence-based best practices, and regulatory standards. Actively identifies practice related issues which require evaluation and facilitate clinical research projects, quality improvement initiatives, or healthcare provider education as needed to advance practice.
- Oversees medication procurement, ordering, and dispensing procedures and oversee policies and procedures for drug distribution, and inventory control.
- Tracks and evaluates assigned pharmacy programs for operational, quality, and financial efficiency, and routinely benchmarks against local and national best practices.
- Facilitates experiential education and practice advancement. Develops student, resident, and staff training experiences/competencies and creates new relationships for teaching and training opportunities. Promotes an atmosphere of warmth, compassion, and understanding while demonstrating empathy and the ability to relate to families in crisis.

What you will need:
Experience:
- At least one of the following:
- Board Certification in Psychiatry (BCPP)
- Completed PGY2 in psychiatry
- Five years of predominant psychiatric experience
Education:
- Pharm. D. or RPh required
License(s) and Certification(s):
- State of Colorado Registered Pharmacist license
Pay is based upon relevant education and experience per hour.
Hourly Pay:
$62.61 - $86.40 USD
