The Role
We are seeking a Head of Marketing & Communications to define and lead Valar Atomics’ external narrative during a pivotal stage of company growth. This person will be responsible for shaping how Valar communicates its mission, technology, and vision to the public, industry stakeholders, customers, investors, policymakers, and future employees.
This is a highly strategic and hands-on leadership role that blends brand development, communications, public relations, content strategy, recruiting marketing, and executive visibility. The ideal candidate can translate deeply technical concepts into compelling storytelling while building a modern brand that earns trust and excitement around advanced nuclear energy.
You will work closely with company leadership to establish Valar as a category-defining company in next-generation nuclear power. This is a fully on-site role based in Hawthorne, California.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute Valar Atomics’ overall marketing and communications strategy.
- Own and evolve the company’s brand identity, messaging, voice, and positioning across all channels.
- Lead public relations efforts, including media outreach, press releases, interviews, and thought leadership opportunities.
- Partner closely with executives and technical teams to communicate complex nuclear and engineering concepts clearly and effectively.
- Build and manage content across social media, website, recruiting campaigns, presentations, video, and other digital channels.
- Drive company storytelling around mission, technology milestones, hiring, partnerships, and company growth.
- Support recruiting and talent branding initiatives to help attract top engineering and technical talent.
- Develop executive communication strategies, including keynote support, speaking opportunities, podcasts, and public appearances.
- Oversee marketing assets, brand standards, and creative direction across all company materials.
- Monitor industry trends, competitor positioning, and public sentiment surrounding energy and nuclear technology.
- Build relationships with media outlets, strategic partners, and relevant industry organizations.
- Manage external vendors, agencies, freelancers, and creative partners as needed.
- Help establish scalable marketing and communications systems as the company grows.

Basic Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, brand strategy, or related fields.
- Proven experience building or scaling a company, brand, or communications function.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience developing messaging and storytelling for technical or highly complex industries.
- Strong understanding of media relations, social media strategy, and digital communications.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with limited structure.
- High level of ownership, accountability, and strategic thinking.
- Based in or willing to relocate to Hawthorne, CA.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Business, or related field.
- Experience working in energy, aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, deep tech, hardware, or industrial industries.
- Experience supporting founder-led or executive-led communications strategies.
- Familiarity with investor communications and fundraising narratives.
- Experience creating recruiting marketing or employer branding campaigns.
- Strong visual and creative instincts across modern digital platforms.
- Experience working in high-growth startup environments.
- Ability to manage agencies, contractors, and cross-functional creative projects.
- Passion for emerging technologies, industrial innovation, and energy infrastructure.

Salary
$180,000 - $250,000 USD
