Senior Associate, Compound Analysis and Purification
About Us
Valo Health is a technology company that is integrating human-centric data and AI-powered technology to accelerate the creation of life-changing drugs for more patients faster. Valo was created with the belief that the drug discovery and development process can and should be faster and less expensive, with a much higher probability of success. We are using models early to fail less often, executing clinical trials to add valuation to the company, and generating fit-for-purpose data to feed back into Valo’s Opal Computational Platform™ as we reinvent drug discovery and development from the ground up. Disease doesn’t wait, so neither can we.
We are a multi-disciplinary team of experts in science, technology, and pharmaceuticals united in our mission to achieve better drugs for patients faster. Valo is committed to hiring diverse talent, prioritizing growth and development, fostering an inclusive environment, and creating opportunities to bring together a group of different experiences, backgrounds, and voices to work together. We achieve the widest-ranging impact when we leverage our broad backgrounds and perspectives to accelerate a new frontier in health. Valo seeks to become the catalyst for the pharmaceutical industry and drive the digital transformation of the industry. Are you ready to join us?
About the Role...
Senior Associate Scientist, purification will play a pivotal role in the Analytical Sciences group supporting both traditional and tech-enabled chemistry teams (i.e., Parallel synthesis, DNA-Encoded). Provide domain expertise in chromatography, mass spectrometry, sample workflow management and automation techniques. Enable rapid execution of compound characterization/purification workflows to support Design-Make-Test-Analyze (DMTA) cycles. As part of Valo’s Closed-Loop-Discovery (CLD) paradigm this role will require continuous development and optimization of new instrument/software technologies to enable higher operational efficiencies and support new chemistry initiatives. Potential to cross-functionalize providing ADME and physicochemical assay support for 1st Tie ADME characterization of small molecules (i.e., solubility, metabolic stability etc)
What You’ll Do…
- Development and execution of liquid chromatography methods to support LCMS characterization and purification of novel singleton compounds and parallel solution phase libraries.
- Hands on operation and maintenance of the state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation suite including UPLC-MS and MS-directed HPLC purification platforms. Oversee instrument Field Service Engineering work and service contracts.
- Work collaboratively with the chemistry and sample management teams to maintain aggressive production goals to enable rapid iteration of DMTA cycles and accelerate the discovery programs from HitID to early drug development.
- Oversee the chemistry open access LC-MS service and provide specialized analytical chemistry support, including instrument training and interpretation of analytical data.
- Accurate documentation and adherence to LIMS/ELN procedures to rigorously capture experimental data and procedures.
- Work closely with lab informatics and automation specialists for continuous troubleshooting and improvement of HPLC purification workflows.
- Analytical representative on the parallel synthesis teams. Present on work progress and deliverables.
What You Bring…
- Bachelors in relevant chemistry or life sciences discipline and 3+ years of experience.
- Strong expertise in the use and maintenance of state-of-the-art liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry instrumentation.
- Expert in the use and maintenance of state-of-the-art liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry instrumentation.
- Hands-on experience in small molecule HPLC/LC-MS preparative chromatography and use of automation to manage plate-based purification workflows.
- Excellent teamwork and communications skills.
- A very strong work ethic, high attention to detail and thorough documentation practices.
- A continuous improvement mindset and strong desire to keep up to date with new emerging technologies.
- A good understanding of physicochemical properties and techniques for measuring solubility, lipophilicity and chemical stability.
