Lending at Valon

Valon is currently scaling up its mortgage lending business, which aims to provide the ability to access low-cost, streamlined mortgage credit to Valon borrowers and tools to retain borrowers in their portfolio for Valon partners. We leverage our unique relationships with our borrowers and technology to deliver an easier and cheaper home loan experience. We are looking for experienced and innovative individuals to help build our team and business who are eager to change the mortgage industry for the better.

About the Role

As a Secondary Market Manager at Valon, you will oversee Valon’s secondary and capital markets activities, including managing Valon’s loan product line and investor relationships, financing relationships, pricing and lock desk, and capital markets strategy. This will originally be an IC role, but we anticipate this role overseeing a growing team as the company expands. This person will be a member of Valon’s originations leadership team and will be expected to be a key strategic voice that helps us find new opportunities to grow.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the company's secondary marketing activities, including loan pricing, locking, hedging, and investor relations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with investors, trade advisory firms, and other market participants.
  • Build out and manage improvements to Valon’s delivery strategy, including ramping up mandatory delivery with internal hedging.
  • Monitor market conditions and trends to make informed decisions about loan pricing and hedging strategies.
  • Analyze data and market information to identify opportunities for improving profitability.
  • Monitor and manage pipeline risk, including interest rate risk, fallout risk, and pipeline hedging.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including sales, operations, and underwriting, to ensure seamless execution of secondary marketing activities.
  • Collaborate with operations on the execution of loan sales and delivery to investors.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to secondary marketing activities.
  • Continuously improve and optimize secondary marketing strategies and processes.
  • As Valon expands, manage a team of secondary marketing analysts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in secondary marketing in the residential mortgage industry, including experience working with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and other investors.
  • Deep understanding of mortgage loan pricing, hedging, and delivery.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard secondary marketing tools and technologies.

Ideal Background

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field
  • Experience with Encompass
  • Experience with managing a Pricing and Product Engine

This Base Compensation pay range applies to our New York City located staff and may differ according to location. 

New York Base Compensation Pay Range

$133,000 - $155,000 USD
