Special Products at Valon
Valon’s Special Loans Team is responsible for managing core business processes for MERS updates and reconciliation, SCRA protected loans, recasts, assumptions, successor in interest, and partial release requests. We are a team of creative individuals who approach servicing challenges with an innovative mindset. Our goal is to help homeowners resolve special servicing needs while providing a first-class experience with Valon, all from behind the scenes.
About the role
As a Special Products - MERS Analyst at Valon, you will be responsible for ensuring all Mortgage Electronic Registration System (MERS) related functions are completed in accordance with MERS rules. You will also handle the lien release process to meet state compliance timelines, and assist with other special product areas as assigned. You will work closely with various teams, including customer support, operations, and compliance, to ensure compliance with industry regulations and provide outstanding service to our clients and borrowers.
Responsibilities
- Performs all process functions related to the Mortgage Electronic Registration System (MERS) and eRegistry.
- Establishes the acquisition and timelines with all parties internal and external to ensure TOS/TOB batches are reconciled and accepted timely.
- Actively interact with the Servicing Transfer Management team with regard to acquisitions.
- Identify, process, and prepare required Assignments of Mortgage as needed for acquisitions and service-released loans.
- Review prepared Assignments of Mortgage to ensure thoroughness, accuracy, and completeness with documentation standards.
- Performs MIN-level research on any MERS portfolio reconciliation.
- Reviews and maintains all reporting provided by MERS. Coordinates any tasks or projects related to MERS.
- Performs the monthly and quarterly reconciliation of loans boarded on Valon’s servicing system to MERS.
- Update Mortgage Electronic Records System, Inc. (MERS) to ensure adequate reporting of changes.
- Monitor lien release compliance timelines and work closely with vendors to ensure all exceptions are cleared to meet state compliance requirements.
- Review daily task queue and exception reports to ensure completion of assigned duties within specific SLAs.
- Update and annotate all actions/follow-ups processed on loans in all appropriate systems.
- Prepare required reporting – management, investor, vendor, MERS, etc.
- Any other duties assigned by management.
Ideal Background
- Minimum of 3 years in a mortgage servicing-related role, with MERS or Assignment chain experience
- Ability to handle confidential material in a professional, ethical manner.
- Professional communication skills, written and verbal.
- Must be proficient in Google Apps (Sheets, Docs, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills to identify data discrepancies and complete root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in using loan servicing software and fintech tools.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic start-up environment
Minimum Qualifications
- Previous experience in loan servicing or MERS-related role is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with mortgage servicing software systems.
- Strong knowledge of mortgage industry regulations, including RESPA and TILA.
- Experience in document management and record-keeping.
- Customer service experience in a financial services environment is a plus.
