About the Role

As an HR Business Partner II, your primary focus is to support our ever-growing operations functions for Valon Mortgage, a subsidiary of Valon. You will be managing the HR functions for Valon Mortgage’s brand new, Jacksonville, Florida office. You will coordinate with the other HRBPs, drive HR initiatives, and build the People programs to align with Valon’s business objectives and needs. You will be an internal consultant to People managers and senior leaders across the servicing and mortgage organization. Your day will cover the full HR remit from performance management and coaching to work experience to strategic advisory to our senior operational leaders in Jacksonville. You will be the glue for operations within human resources, improving working relationships, providing HR policy guidance, resolving complex employee relations issues, owning people operations and systems, and much more.

We are looking for someone who loves both the strategic and the tactical. This is a fast-paced role with a large scope.  The right candidate can both roll up their sleeves as well as build out a growing team over the next year. 

This role requires someone who can forge their own path without clear guidance, tackle complex problems, own processes end-to-end, work cross-functionally, and set the strategic path within human resources for our operations business. This function will not be responsible for the talent acquisition function within Valon Mortgage, which rolls up to a different manager.

The role will report to the Head of Legal and Compliance for Valon Mortgage.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, define, and manage all aspects of Valon Mortgage’s Jacksonville HR efforts, including enforcing company policies and practices, conducting employee onboarding, retention, and other HR functions
  • Coordinating with the other HRBPs to ensure consistency between the Valon offices
  • Work and build relationships with senior leaders to ensure alignment on strategic objectives as Valon grows and scales
  • Serve as inspirational leadership within the HR function in the Jacksonville office, leading by example, the Valon values
  • Act as a liaison between employees and management to foster a positive atmosphere
  • Manage corporate plans for a variety of HR matters, including compensation, benefits, health and safety, time and attendance record keeping, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and other requirements
  • Partner with leadership on quarterly employee satisfaction surveys and follow-up action items
  • Lead the compensation committee and bi-annual performance review process alongside Valon Mortgage’s senior leadership team for the Jacksonville staff
  • Coach and build the responsibility and capability of managers to anticipate and pre-empt ER issues and associated risks.
  • Manage discipline and termination of employees as per the organization’s policies

Ideal Background

  • Proven experience and knowledge of Florida employment law, employee relations, and formal investigations, and the ability to practically apply it to the workplace
  • Strong experience in organizational design, change management, and scale
  • Historical track record of driving people programs in performance management, compensation planning, and executive coaching
  • Demonstrated business acumen and the ability to understand business strategy and goals
  • Proven experience in influencing at the senior level, knowing how to manage up and down the corporate structure effectively
  • Executive-level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Call center or mortgage servicing experience preferred
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred 
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field preferred, but not required

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of HR experience, preferably in a generalist or HRBP capacity
  • Experience managing and building up teams
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficient in Excel/Google Suite
  • Must be in the office in our Jacksonville site with some WFH flexibility
  • Broad familiarity with HR sub-verticals spanning HRBP, performance management, policy administration, and people systems
  • Strong track record of leading complex cross-functional projects to completion
  • High degree of executive influence, building strong relationships, and working collaboratively with business leaders
  • Highly resilient, ambitious, and outstanding operator
  • Appetite to work in fast-paced environments 
  • Proactive problem-solving with minimal oversight
  • Strong interpersonal skills, bias toward action, flexibility, and adaptable in approach
