Assistant Construction Manager

Van Metre is seeking a skilled Assistant Construction Manager (Field Assistant) to support our Home Finish & Quality Assurance department with Van Metre Homes. 

As the Assistant Construction Manager (Fied Assistant), you will bridge field learning and independent execution by managing key jobsite responsibilities with increasing ownership, preparing for full field leadership through applied experience and mentorship.

Responsibilities: 

• Take ownership of assigned jobsite responsibilities with increasing independence and accountability
• Execute daily jobsite operations by coordinating trade activity and updating schedules
• Manage trade coordination for assigned activities to ensure build quality and accountability
• Monitor and uphold safety, cleanliness, and environmental standards on-site
• Participate in municipal and internal inspections to build knowledge of compliance and QA
• Engage regularly with Field Managers and peers to review plans, troubleshoot issues, and improve execution
• Demonstrate professional curiosity, initiative, and accountability in daily responsibilities
• Model a continuous improvement mindset by applying Lean practices in the field

Success Metrics:

• Completion of assigned tasks accurately and on time
• Full participation in assigned training sessions, meetings, and mentorship milestones
• Demonstrated readiness for Field Manager promotion within 12–18 months

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field (or equivalent experience/training)
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn through hands-on work
• Clear communicator with an organized, observant, and proactive approach
• Interest in quality building systems and Lean construction practices
• Tech-savvy and comfortable using mobile apps and digital workflows
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required

Work Environment  Physical Requirements

• Full-time, Mon–Fri; Field-based with regular jobsite presence and occasional coordination at HQ or Manufacturing facility
• Ability to work outdoors in active construction environments, including exposure to weather, uneven surfaces, and modular installation equipment
• Frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and navigating job sites
• Ability to travel to and between job sites
• Ability to lift and carry materials and jobsite equipment up to 40 pounds as needed and wear required PPE onsite

• Salary: $60,000-70,000 annually (Pay is commensurate with experience, education, training, and skills)
