Job Summary
As a Junior Coach, you will provide hands-on support and encouragement to members in the community, helping them work toward their health and wellness goals. This role involves direct client interaction, relationship-building, and engagement with clients in various settings, including in-home and community-based locations. The Junior Coach works under the guidance of a Senior Coach and collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to help individuals achieve a sense of purpose and well-being.

Responsibilities

1. Member Engagement and Support

  • Build trusting, empathetic relationships with members through regular, compassionate interaction.
  • Engage members in discussions about their goals, strengths, and challenges to develop a collaborative approach to their recovery journey.
  • Conduct outreach to connect with members in various locations, including homes, community events, and shelters.

2. Resource Connection and Advocacy

  • Support members in accessing community resources such as mental health services, housing programs, and employment resources.
  • Help members navigate healthcare and social service systems, ensuring they receive holistic support tailored to their needs.

3. Support Plan Implementation

  • Work with members to develop and track personalized health and wellness plans, under the direction of a Senior Coach or Team Lead.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to align coaching strategies with members’ overall care plans, ensuring continuity of care.

4. Documentation and Reporting

  • Document member interactions, outreach activities, and progress in a timely and accurate manner using Vanna Health’s technology platform.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss client progress, challenges, and opportunities for additional support.

5. Skills Development and Team Collaboration

  • Participate in training sessions and seek guidance from Senior Coaches to continually develop skills and improve coaching techniques.
  • Collaborate with other team members to share insights, support peers, and contribute to a positive, recovery-oriented culture.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience in a support, mentorship, or community-focused role, preferably within mental health or social services.
  • Passion for helping individuals with serious mental illness and a strong belief in recovery-oriented care.
  • Effective communication and active listening skills to build rapport with clients and understand their unique needs.
  • Basic understanding of technology systems like Google Suite, Slack, and electronic health records; willingness to learn Vanna Health’s specific platforms.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or Certified Peer Specialist or Community Health Worker Certification is preferred.

Physical and Emotional Requirements

This role balances time between an office environment and time spent assisting members out in our community.  As such, the role requires frequent talking, listening, standing, walking, sitting, and typing.  Time will occasionally be spent lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, and reaching. Regular exposure to atmospheric conditions is to be expected while navigating between locations.  This role requires a high level of empathy and emotional regulation due to frequent interaction with individuals experiencing high levels of emotional distress, which can lead to emotional fatigue. The ability to maintain composure while actively listening and de-escalating situations is crucial.
