Product Engineer - Systems Agents (TS/SCI Clearance Required)

Remote

Vannevar builds AI systems for the Department of War's most consequential missions. We have 125 deployments across every branch and combatant command spanning our core platform and five distinct products. An an example of how we work, when major combat operations started with Iran, we fielded a new product supporting 24/7 operations and 9,000+ users in three months.

How we build is our advantage: we deploy forward with the people who own the mission. Our engineers, product team, and CTO deploy forward to the point of friction, including visiting units in Ukraine. We focus on embedding directly with operational units supporting great power competition with China, combat operations with Iran, and counter-narcotics missions.

About the role

Vannevar is building the future of national security enablement with agentic AI. Our platform tightens the loop from observation to action by giving warfighters cutting-edge analysis tools to make better decisions, faster.

We’re looking for a talented Product Engineer to join the Systems Agents engineering team. This team builds the coding harness, runtime layer, and software integrations to modernize mission-critical software systems, reduce technical debt, refactor legacy architectures, and accelerate software delivery using AI.

Your team will partner closely with customers, designers, product leaders, and forward-deployed engineers to build lasting products where our partners are meaningfully enabled by AI. You’ll be responsible for building novel full-stack agentic workflows that are production-grade, cybersecurity compliant, and have strong evaluations.

This role is ideal for a product-minded software engineer that has deep technical judgment around AI-native product development and can embed closely with a deployed engineering team to fuse product signal from the early prototyping phase into an enduring product vision. You’ll help the team move quickly, iterate with users, and build pragmatic, high-impact agentic systems for national security missions.

What you’ll do

  • Product engineering: Lead the Systems Agents team in designing, building, and shipping a cutting-edge coding harness and broader product(s) for systems modernization using TypeScript, React, Tailwind, Node.js, Python, Postgres, and AWS.
  • Product integration: Build integrations between source control systems, CI/CD platforms, requirements management tools, security scanners, developer environments, and other commercial software products to create end-to-end modernization workflows.
  • Agent leadership: Guide the implementation and scaling of robust agentic workflows that enable system refactoring and software re-architecture at scale, using modern agent frameworks and patterns.
  • Customer and mission partnership: Partner with customers, mission owners, designers, and product teams to understand user workflows and drive concrete outcomes aligned with real-world workflows.
  • AI-native product strategy: Help define and shape how software engineers, system architects, and program managers across program offices supporting DoW are enabled by AI and agents at Vannevar, balancing ambitious product vision with reliable execution.

What we’re looking for

  • Must have US Persons status and hold an active U.S. TS Security clearance with SCI Eligibility
  • Experience building, evaluating, or operating coding agents, software engineering agents, code intelligence systems, or agentic developer tools using LangGraph, OpenAI SDK, Model Context Protocol (MCP), Agent2Agent (A2A), and more.
  • Experience integrating multiple commercial software products and APIs to support interoperability across software engineering workflows. Strong product and market instincts and prior experience working directly with users, customers, or mission owners to understand workflows, collect feedback, and ship better solutions.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong technical judgment across full-stack systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, cross-functional leadership, and project ownership.
  • Proficiency with:
    • Coding in Python, TypeScript, or similar
    • PostgreSQL, or other relational databases.
    • Software development in AWS or other cloud services.
  • Willingness to travel to offsites, team syncs, and customer sites.

What we value

  • Prior experience building software for defense, national security or intelligence use cases.
  • Prior experience with systems languages to include Ada, CMS-2, Java, and/or C++
  • Prior experience with DevSecOps, Risk Management Framework, NIST 800-53
