Director of Accounting and Financial Operations

Vast is in search of a Director of Accounting & Financial Operations
Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico (Hybrid)
Reports To: Founder / COO
Employment Type: Full-Time

Your Mission
As we prepare to scale, we’re looking for a senior finance leader to help lay the foundation for both internal operations and client-facing services. As our first senior accounting hire, you’ll be responsible for standing up the accounting function across the entire organization — both internally for Vast and externally for our early clients. This is a builder role. You’ll be working closely with leadership, software developers, and our clients to ensure world-class financial processes from day one.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Design and implement accounting systems, policies, and controls across all Vast business units (Shared Services, Logistics, Software, RT).
  • Prepare internal financial statements, budgets, and performance dashboards.
  • Manage grant tracking and compliance with Puerto Rico Export Services decree.

Client-Facing Accounting Services

  • Lead onboarding of early clients to Vast’s back-office support model.
  • Oversee accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll for a portfolio of U.S.-based businesses.
  • Guide the development of standardized reporting, KPIs, and dashboard templates.

Software Integration & Process Design

  • Work with the software development team to translate real-world accounting workflows into digital tools.
  • Define requirements for ERP and POS integrations.
  • Contribute to the roadmap for the Vast software platform with a financial lens.

Team Building & Leadership

  • Recruit, mentor, and manage a growing team of finance professionals as the business scales.
  • Collaborate across departments (operations, legal, logistics, product) to align financial processes.

What You Bring

  • CPA preferred, but not required. Bachelor’s or Master’s in Accounting, Finance, or similar.
  • 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with exposure to both corporate and client-service environments.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting systems like QuickBooks, Xero, or NetSuite.
  • Experience in building accounting infrastructure from the ground up.
  • Familiarity with Puerto Rico business environment or willingness to learn quickly.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Must be based in Puerto Rico or willing to relocate (Relocation assistance available).
