Veterinary Technician and Anesthetist

The Veterinary Eye Center (VEC) is opening a brand new, purpose-built specialty practice in late 2025 in the heart of Greenwich’s West End (100 Putnam Green). We will offer industry-leading Ophthalmological services, advanced diagnostics, and complex surgical treatments in a modern, highly accessible facility.

We’re seeking a motivated Veterinary Technician with strong interests in both medicine (running appointments, etc.) and surgery (running anesthesia) to join our founding clinical team. Whether your background is in general practice, emergency, or you’ve already worked in a specialty setting, this is a unique opportunity to elevate your skills in a hospital designed for teamwork, learning, and excellence.

What You’ll Do:
As a member of the ophthalmology team, you will be actively involved in both appointments and surgical procedures. Our Technicians run appointments and manage anesthesia for surgical patients from start to finish including making anesthesia plans, inducing and recovering, and anesthesia monitoring. Specifically, you will:
Medical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Running appointments: History taking, ophthalmic diagnostics (STT, IOP, fluorescein stain application)
- Client communication about histories and medications
- Filling medications
- Assisting with short procedures during appointments such as corneal debridement
- Performing diagnostics when requested during appointments such as venipuncture for bloodwork and blood pressure measurement
- Record keeping such as input of patient histories
- Creating invoices for billing and estimate creation for procedures
Surgical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Create protocols for anesthesia or sedation for ophthalmic procedures using inhalant and injectable medications as well as (occasionally) paralytics
- Induce patients for anesthesia
- Monitor anesthesia and sedation closely throughout procedures
- Troubleshoot patient anesthetic concerns and provide real-time treatments
- Recover patients from anesthesia
- Utilize paralytics during anesthesia for microsurgical procedures
- Maintain accurate and detailed records throughout surgical procedures
- Assist with pre-surgical diagnostics and patient preparation
- Intaking and discharging surgical patients
What We Require:
- An interest and excitement for Veterinary Ophthalmology
- Experience administering anesthetic protocols in a surgical environment
- Strong record-keeping skills
- Experience with PIMS/practice management software, (ezyVet is our in-house platform)
- Demonstrates strong competency in medical calculations
- Proficient in EMR documentation with a focus on accuracy, clarity, and attention to detail
- Certified Veterinary Technicians or Licensed Veterinary Technicians are strongly preferred and encouraged to apply

- The salary range for this role is: $32-$36. Additional incentives available for candidates with a VTS in Ophthalmology
