CAD Engineer
WHY VEIR?
VEIR is enabling a new generation of compact, efficient, high-power, and long-distance power delivery solutions, solving bottlenecks that exist across the entire electricity value chain, from generation through to data center server racks. VEIR's low voltage superconducting solutions are enabling new power delivery architectures in the world’s largest data centers and our higher voltage solutions are poised to revolutionize the development of electricity transmission and distribution lines. VEIR is preparing for rapid growth as we seek to solve critical challenges facing data center developers, electricity generation developers, and utilities around the world.
VEIR is seeking a highly skilled CAD Engineer to support the development of our next generation of high-temperature superconducting cable systems and cryogenic infrastructure. In this role, you’ll translate engineering concepts into precise, manufacturable drawings and models that enable VEIR’s product teams to build, test, and scale our technology.
You will work closely with engineers across the organization to develop SolidWorks models, large assemblies, layouts, drawings, and visualizations that support VEIR’s product development and system integration efforts, from early concepts through released manufacturing drawings. This role is central to maintaining engineering quality, speed, and rigor as VEIR moves toward commercialization, and requires strong mechanical judgment, including an understanding of basic stress, strain, and structural behavior, fixture and hardware design, and ensuring all designs can be built, assembled, and tested in the real world.
The ideal candidate brings strong CAD fundamentals, deep mechanical intuition, and a high level of ownership. You have designed and built the things you draw, understand manufacturing best practices, and take pride in producing accurate, clean, and reliable models and drawings that engineers and technicians can execute with confidence. You thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment and are ready to take on increasing design responsibility as VEIR scales.
What You’ll Do
- Use your expertise with CAD software to create high-quality, manufacturable technical drawings and models that meet VEIR and industry standards.
- Own the detailed design and documentation of mechanical components and assemblies, from concept through release, with increasing autonomy.
- Collaborate closely with Designers, Engineers, Manufacturing, and Operations teams to ensure designs are buildable, cost-effective, and accurately executed.
- Develop detailed 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks based on engineering requirements, sketches, and system-level constraints.
- Apply strong mechanical judgment when designing parts and assemblies, selecting appropriate hardware, materials, tolerances, and fastening strategies.
- Interpret and produce orthographic (2D) and isometric (3D) drawings with proper GD&T and manufacturing best practices in mind.
- Lead portions of design projects independently, coordinating inputs, managing revisions, and driving designs to release.
- Process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs/ECOs) and Design Packages, ensuring clear documentation, version control, and release to all relevant stakeholders.
- Support and improve document control, PDM workflows, and drawing standards as VEIR continues to scale.
- Maintain and enhance parametric drawing templates and design libraries to improve efficiency and consistency across the engineering organization.
Skills You Have
- 3–5+ years of CAD modeling and drafting experience, primarily in SolidWorks, with increasing design ownership over time.
- Demonstrated experience designing real, buildable hardware, not just drawings, with an understanding of manufacturing processes and constraints.
- Strong ability to read, create, and review 2D and 3D technical drawings, including proper application of GD&T and tolerancing.
- Experience choosing hardware, fasteners, materials, and components based on functional and manufacturing requirements.
- Familiarity with PDM systems, Engineering Change Orders, and formal document control processes (bonus if you’ve served as a PDM admin or power user).
- Experience managing multiple design efforts in parallel while maintaining accuracy and organization.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or DraftSight is a plus, but not a primary requirement.
- Proficiency with standard productivity tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience in industrial, mechanical, energy, infrastructure, or related hardware-driven environments is preferred.
Who You Are
- You have strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
- You are an outstanding communicator (written and verbal) and work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- You are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to impactful, cutting-edge technologies.
- You are results-driven. You gauge success by measurable impact, not by the length of your to-do list, and you know how to ruthlessly prioritize.
- You thrive when managing multiple projects with competing priorities, making decisions under pressure, and working under tight deadlines.
- You are highly curious, solutions-oriented, and excel at breaking down complex problems into manageable components.
- You are comfortable with the role’s working conditions, research laboratory environments and periodic outdoor work (testbeds, pilot demonstrations).
- You are committed to VEIR’s mission, goals, and core values.
VEIR is committed to equal pay for equal work in its compensation practices. The base salary range for this position in the U.S. is $80,000 - $100,000 per year + equity + benefits. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications, job level, supervisory status, and location.
