Overview
The Total Rewards Specialist plays an essential role on the Velir People Operations (POps) team and reports directly to the People Operations Manager. In this position, you'll be responsible for overseeing our payroll and benefits functions, making sure that everyone gets paid accurately and on time while complying with all government regulations.
You'll also assist in managing our benefits programs, which include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and short and long-term disability, as well as our 401(k) plan. Additionally, you'll support HR Metrics & Reporting and help us stay compliant with state regulations. We’re excited to have someone like you on board to make a positive impact!
Responsibilities
- Accurately prepare and process semimonthly payroll for over 200 employees across multiple US states using Namely and globally using Deel, our global PEO.
- Calculate deductions, bonuses, and commissions, and handle payroll adjustments and garnishments with care.
- Ensure that payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, and pay rate changes, are processed accurately and on time.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws, as well as best practices.
- Identify and recommend improvements to our payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
- Make certain that all benefits enrollments in the HRIS (Namely) are accurate so that vendors receive the correct eligibility information.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employees seeking assistance or information, ensuring timely and professional support through direct interactions and the effective management of our ticketing system, Freshdesk.
- Oversee the maintenance of employee benefits files, manage the group benefits through Namely, and keep employee payroll records updated.
- Distribute all benefits enrollment materials and determine eligibility for our employees.
- Respond promptly to any benefit & payroll inquiries regarding plan provisions, enrollments, status changes, and general questions.
- With the support of the People Operations Manager, handle requests for leaves of absence and the associated disability paperwork, including medical, personal, disability, and FMLA.
- Support the 401(k) relationship and responds to inquiries from employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts.
- Manage the open enrollment process in collaboration with our benefits broker.
- Coordinate the transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums, and plan administration.
- Analyze our current benefits, evaluating their use, services, coverage, effectiveness, cost, and plan experience, as well as competitive trends, to assess the company's position.
- Own benefits and payroll compliance reporting.
- Own the HR Metrics & Reporting Function for our team.
- Support salary benchmarking needs for Velir as we establish a compensation philosophy and other organizational needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office and all its features.
- Takes a proactive, solution-oriented approach while maintaining high confidentiality and discretion.
- Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field of study, preferred.
- 2+ years experience as a HR Generalist, Benefits Specialist, Total Rewards Specialist, Accountant or similar role.

Compensation Range: $70,000 - $80,000 annually
Please note that compensation packages are finalized after the interview process is concluded. We use a competency-based approach to base pay, which means it is based on the competencies and skills demonstrated for this role.
