Staff Software Engineer

Remote

About Us:
Venice is the world’s leading consumer AI company built on principles of privacy, free speech, and user sovereignty.

We’re building the Port City of AI, in which millions of individuals, third party apps, and AI agents gather, interact, and access sophisticated AI resources.  Our mission is to make artificial intelligence approachable and useful in everyday work—bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and practical, real-world impact.

We’re a fast-moving startup where every team member is expected to make a clear impact. Our culture is rooted in curiosity, ownership, ethical principle, philosophy, and collaboration—whether we’re designing better AI workflows, supporting our growing community, or shaping the future of human-AI interaction.

Joining Venice AI means joining a team of unorthodox builders who believe in moving quickly, delivering a beautiful and highly useful consumer product, and maintaining an edge in the rapidly evolving world of agentic machine intelligence. If you’re energized by big ideas, entrepreneurial spirit, individual empowerment, and the opportunity to help shape a company from the ground up, you’ll feel right at home here.

Why we are hiring:

This is a builder's role, not a manager's. You'll write code that matters, shape the architectural decisions behind the product, and set the bar for craft. You'll be one of a small group of high-performance, high-octane engineers, so direction gets shaped together, and we want you operating with genuine agency and deep ownership over what you build and ship.

What you’ll do:

  • As a key architect of Venice’s consumer-facing products, you’ll do more than build features, you’ll help decide what gets built and why. You’ll carry ownership over the whole application (a React/TypeScript stack that has to be fast, gorgeous, and rock-solid at scale),  not just your corner of it.
  • You’ll take features from ambiguous problem to production, knowing when to move fast and when to slow down. That judgement, sizing up what’s load-bearing vs what’s reversible, is core to how you work and has been developed through years of experience in similar environments.
  • You will set the bar for frontend craft across the board: performance, accessibility, state management, component architecture, production, reliability, and the kind of polish that makes something feel effortless to use. When someone uses Venice and thinks “wow, this just works,” that’s partly on you.
  • You’ll work directly with founders, design, and inference teams to turn big ideas into interfaces people actually want.
  • You’ll make the whole org better through code review, mentorship. The conventions you establish will outlast any single PR.

Who you are:

  • Staff-level depth in TypeScript and React, and you know the modern frontend stack in and out. Ideally, you have also worked with Rust and React Native. More importantly, you've built and scaled complex consumer products and can walk us through the decisions  you made and why.
  • You're more-than-comfortable with agentic coding tools, and ideally you've done more than just use them. You've thought about what it takes to make them reliable at team scale, whether that's building harnesses, adding guardrails, or establishing the practices that keep AI-assisted code fast and high-quality.
  • You've shipped multimodal, streaming, high-latency agentic applications before. The ones where outputs are big, latency is unpredictable, and the product still needs to feel alive and responsive.
  • Deep experience building privacy-focused, local-first applications: protecting users by default, and managing private data in the browser so it stays durable, secure, and able to evolve over time.
  • You have real web3 experience and know how to bring decentralized primitives into a consumer product in a way that feels natural, not bolted on.
  • Strong product instincts. You care about what the user experiences, not just what compiles.
  • You know when to go deep and when to move on. You thrive on a small, senior team where your influence comes from what you build.
