Vice President, Strategic Sourcing

Vera Therapeutics (Nasdaq: VERA), is a late clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing treatments for serious immunological diseases. Vera’s mission is to advance treatments that target the source of immunologic diseases in order to change the standard of care for patients. Vera’s lead product candidate is atacicept, a fusion protein self-administered at home as a subcutaneous once weekly injection that blocks both B-cell Activating Factor (BAFF) and A Proliferation Inducing Ligand (APRIL), which stimulate B cells to produce autoantibodies contributing to certain autoimmune diseases, including IgA nephropathy. Vera is also evaluating the role of atacicept in other immunologic disorders. Additionally, Vera is developing VT-109, a novel, next-generation dual BAFF/APRIL inhibitor in preclinical development, and MAU868, a monoclonal antibody designed to neutralize infection with BK virus, a polyomavirus that can have devastating consequences in certain settings such as kidney transplant. Position Summary:

The Vice President, Strategic Sourcing will report to Chief Legal Officer and will be responsible for leading clinical vendor outsourcing and global supply chain with a strong focus on vendor selection and performance management, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, contract oversight & management and operational excellence. Critical partners for these activities include CMC & Clinical Operations. This person will oversee clinical and commercial supply chains, ensuring alignment with FDA/EMA standards, cold chain logistics protocols, and enterprise-wide risk management frameworks. This role will lead and scale the function in alignment with Vera’s growth trajectory.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Vendor Outsourcing and Supply Chain Leadership

  • Direct end-to-end direct and indirect supply chain/sourcing operations, including establishment of best practices for vendor selection and qualification for clinical trial services, RFP development and management, bid analysis and cost comparisons, budget development and negotiation, vendor rosters and preferred provider agreements maintenance, vendor performance metrics tracking, vendor bid defense strategies, demand planning logistics, development of scope of work and payment schedules, and inventory management across global clinical and commercial programs.
  • Develop and implement global supply chain strategies to support product launches, lifecycle transitions, and business continuity.
  • Lead vendor selection, contract negotiation (MSAs/SOWs), and performance oversight, in close partnership with legal to ensure risk mitigation, compliance, and contract consistency.
  • In partnership with key business leaders, develop strategic plans for potential long term vendor partnerships with consideration of preferred suppliers, governance, best practices, staff augmentation solutions, cost sheets, etc.

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure full compliance with FDA, EMA, GMP, GCP, GDP, and SOX regulations across all supply chain activities, including vendor compliance.
  • Oversee clinical trial readiness, including compliant labeling, packaging, and documentation for regulatory submissions.
  • Maintain audit readiness and lead internal/external audits, CAPA processes, and quality system reviews.
  • Implement and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality control systems to ensure traceability, documentation integrity, and regulatory alignment, working collaboratively with legal on regulatory interpretations, supplier agreements, and audit responses.

Risk Management & Business Continuity

  • Develop and execute comprehensive risk mitigation strategies, including scenario planning, supply continuity assessments, and supplier risk profiling.
  • Lead cross-functional risk reviews and implement controls to address geopolitical, operational, and compliance-related risks.
  • Monitor and report on supplier KPIs (cost, risk, on-time delivery) using real-time dashboards and analytics tools.
  • Manage cold chain logistics and temperature-sensitive product handling to mitigate spoilage and ensure product integrity.

Cost Optimization

  • Drive cost savings through strategic sourcing, vendor consolidation, and contract renegotiation.
  • Lead RFI/RFP processes for critical materials and service providers across global operations.
  • Align sourcing strategies with financial goals, ensuring transparency, compliance, and value creation.

Digital Transformation & Systems Integration

  • Champion the use of ERP and planning systems through integration from multiple data sources in different global regions to enhance visibility, forecast accuracy, and operational efficiency in adherence to global regulations (e.g., GDPR, transparency, privacy).
  • Implement digital tools for contract lifecycle management, supplier performance tracking, and inventory optimization.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with finance, regulatory, quality, R&D and manufacturing teams to ensure operational alignment and readiness.
  • Lead S&OP processes to synchronize supply chain planning with clinical and commercial objectives.
  • Support M&A due diligence and integration from a supply chain and compliance perspective, serving as a liaison to legal to ensure seamless integration of contractual and sourcing obligations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, MBA or advanced degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in vendor management, supply chain and manufacturing operations.
  • Deep expertise in regulatory compliance, clinical supply chain planning, and cold chain logistics.
  • Proven leadership in biotech, pharmaceutical, or high-tech R&D and manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, S&OP, and vendor management.

The exact base pay offered for this role will depend on various factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geography, qualifications, skills, and experience.
