Software Engineer, Experimentation
About Vercel:
Vercel gives developers the tools and cloud infrastructure to build, scale, and secure a faster, more personalized web. As the team behind v0, Next.js, and AI SDK, Vercel helps customers like Ramp, Supreme, PayPal, and Under Armour build for the AI-native web.
Our mission is to enable the world to ship the best products. That starts with creating a place where everyone can do their best work. Whether you're building on our platform, supporting our customers, or shaping our story: You can just ship things.
About the Role:
Join our Experimentation team to build the systems that power reliable, high-performance feature flagging at global scale. Leveraging JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, SQL and NoSQL cloud-native databases, you will develop innovative solutions across our experimentation platform, working on our Flags SDK and its providers, while driving deeper integration of feature flags throughout our platform to ensure reliability at scale.
Your work will have a direct impact on customers by empowering them to make data-driven decisions through enriched insights. You'll help them answer critical questions about feature performance, trends and health, and overall system health based on their running experiments with minimal latency.
This is your opportunity to reimagine experimentation infrastructure from the ground up. We need someone with hands-on experience scaling feature flag systems who isn't afraid to challenge conventional approaches and rethink existing solutions.
This role is remote based out of the UK, Germany or the Netherlands.
What You Will Do:
- Enable customers to measure experiment impact by surfacing feature flags and experimentation as first-class citizens across the Vercel platform
- Design and implement deep platform integrations to surface feature flag data across our entire ecosystem
- Build and evolve our Flags SDK and partner integrations to deliver lightning-fast feature flag resolution at scale
- Rethink traditional approaches to feature flagging and experimentation, proposing innovative solutions that push industry boundaries
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver large-scale experimentation features with cross-team dependencies
- Develop APIs and data pipelines that process billions of flag evaluations while maintaining low latency
- Maintain and operate services at high scale, participating in scheduled on-call rotations to ensure reliability
About You:
- 3+ years of experience building and scaling feature flag and experimentation systems in production environments
- Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js with a track record of building high-performance distributed systems
- Strong understanding of experimentation methodologies, A/B testing, and statistical analysis for feature validation
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, data pipelines, and real-time data processing at scale
- Deep understanding of SDK design principles and experience building developer-friendly client libraries
- Familiarity with observability practices and integrating telemetry data across distributed systems
- Proven ability to challenge existing solutions and propose innovative approaches to complex technical problems
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills, especially when collaborating with diverse teams
Benefits:
- Competitive compensation package, including equity.
- Inclusive Healthcare Package.
- Learn and Grow - we provide mentorship and send you to events that help you build your network and skills.
- Flexible Time Off.
- We will provide you the gear you need to do your role, and a WFH budget for you to outfit your space as needed.
