Verisign is seeking a Senior Engineer to join our Infrastructure and Services team. This is a senior technical position with high visibility and cross-functional responsibility. Successful applicants must demonstrate superior interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, negotiation, and prioritization skills.
In this role, you will be pivotal in coordinating activities across various teams to meet both business and technical objectives, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery. You will work with engineering, operations, security, finance, and business teams to define strategies, manage metrics, and maintain consistency. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise, effective communications, and demonstrate a strong commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Center of Excellence: Managing Platform Services Operating Reviews to ensure alignment with strategic goals, optimize resources, and drive continuous improvement.
- Leading operating review meetings, ensuring alignment with goals
- Operational Leadership: Serving as the primary point of contact for day-to-day Platform Services operations, ensuring smooth and efficient team performance
- Collaborating with outside teams, serving as the point-of-contract for Platform Operations
- Process Improvement: Finding opportunities for process improvement and automation to lower operational risks and cost
- Identifying opportunities for automation and process improvement
- Documenting and socializing recommendations to senior leadership
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Working with infrastructure stakeholders to identify operational gaps and requirements, ensuring alignment with business needs
- Service Level Metrics: Defining, implementing, and monitoring service level metrics for critical services across shared infrastructure services
- Objectives & Key Results (OKR): Implementing and managing OKRs across multiple teams to enhance productivity and efficiency
- Incident Management: Overseeing the analysis and resolution of critical incidents, conducting thorough postmortems to prevent future occurrences and ensure continuous improvement
- Compliance: Acting as the primary contact for implementing and maintaining security compliance and controls, including vulnerability identification and remediation. Ensure compliance with all VeriSign policy and standards
- Benchmark Configurations: Ensuring secure benchmark configurations are developed, implemented, and maintained across all critical systems and services
- Technology Research: Researching and evaluating new technologies to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency
- Strategic Planning: Providing input and support for long-term strategic planning initiatives, aligning with organizational goals
- Drive transformation of VeriSign's Platform Services, including the adoption of technologies such as containers/Kubernetes, and cloud-based solutions
- Finance Management: Managing Platform Services budget, financial planning, and life-cycle management to ensure optimized cost and resource utilization
- Providing research and author business cases as the foundation for executive decisions.
- Documentation: Developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation for processes, procedures, and configurations
- Providing detailed analysis and explanation of data for senior leadership
- Mentorship: Leading and mentoring junior engineers and team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning
- Performance Monitoring: Monitoring and analyzing system performance and implementing improvements as necessary
- Capacity Planning: Conducting capacity planning to ensure infrastructure can meet current and future demands
- Vendor Management: Collaborating with vendors and service providers to ensure optimal service delivery and support
Requirements:
- Bachelors' degree in Computer Science/Engineering required, or equivalent work experience
- 12+ years of progressively responsible experience in IT infrastructure and operations
- Excellent communications skills, experienced at peer level and 2-3 levels up
- Comfortable presenting to and influencing senior and executive leadership
- Effective collaboration and ability to lead teams of people toward organizational goals
- Highly adaptable, able to juggle multiple priorities
- Self-motivated and driven to produce high-quality results
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage cross-functional teams
- Strong knowledge of security compliance and control frameworks
- Expertise in infrastructure & application services management
- Experience with incident management and resolution
- Proficiency in research and evaluation of new technologies
- Experience creating SLOs & SLIs to ensure availability and reliability of critical services
- Experience driving cost savings & optimizing operational efficiencies
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, experienced with driving issues to resolution
- Proficiency creating quality executive documentation with tight timelines
- Demonstrated ability to leverage automation, scripting, or code to reduce overhead
- Deep knowledge of technology and ability to manage vendor relationships
- Working knowledge of budget planning and reporting transparency
Preferred Skills:
- Experience running CloudBees Jenkins, JFrog Artifactory, Jira, HashiCorp Vault, Guardicore, Calico, Prometheus, Grafana, Netcool, Cribl, and Splunk services
- Working knowledge of enterprise tools such as Service Now, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, GitHub, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience with cloud platforms and virtualization technologies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to balance diverse requests from multiple areas and levels of management
This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a hybrid work schedule.
The pay range is $164,300 - $222,300.
The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
