The Director of Identity and Access Management (IAM) Engineering leads the strategy, engineering, delivery, operations, and continuous improvement of Verisign’s enterprise IAM program and services. This role owns the operational effectiveness and roadmap for IAM capabilities, including Privileged Access Management (PAM), Identity Governance and Administration (IGA), access management, MFA, and related identity services across our on-premises, cloud, and SaaS environments.
The Director is a player-coach who leads teams and drives the IAM program, bringing deep hands-on experience implementing, integrating, and scaling IAM platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the execution and continued evolution of the IAM strategy, architecture, and roadmap in alignment with Verisign’s security, technology, and business objectives
- Lead the implementation, integration, operation, and continuous improvement of enterprise IAM platforms, including PAM, IGA, access management, MFA, and related identity services
- Establish IAM architecture standards for secure, scalable integration of key IAM platforms across on-premises, cloud, and SaaS environments
- Lead and develop the IAM team, providing coaching and technical direction while ensuring strong execution across engineering, delivery, and operations
- Manage team operations, including on-call support and escalation coverage, to ensure reliable delivery and support of IAM services
- Partner with stakeholders across the organization to deliver IAM solutions and services that are secure, effective, and aligned to enterprise needs
- Support IAM governance processes, including lifecycle management, least-privilege access, and access re-certification activities
- Communicate IAM roadmap progress, key risks, service performance, and program metrics to senior leadership
- Deliver presentations and communications to build stakeholder awareness, alignment, and support for IAM priorities and changes
- Manage IAM vendor relationships and technology evaluations, including requirements, solution assessments, business cases, and support for platform selection and procurement
- Manage IAM budget planning, vendor spend, and licensing in support of roadmap and operational priorities
- Ensure IAM capabilities and practices align with relevant security frameworks, internal standards, and audit or compliance requirements, including SOX control objectives and evidence needs
- Operate as a player-coach by providing technical expertise and hands-on support for major IAM initiatives and complex issues
Qualifications and Preferred Expertise:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, cybersecurity, or related discipline
- 15+ years of related experience in IAM, security engineering, or related technology roles, including experience leading teams and delivering enterprise IAM programs, services, and operations
- 6+ years of people management experience
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent IAM, PAM, cloud, or security vendor-specific certifications preferred
- Hands-on experience implementing, integrating, and operating enterprise IAM platforms and services across on-premises, cloud, and SaaS environments
- Strong expertise across IAM capabilities, including PAM, IGA, access management, phishing-resistant MFA, federation, and related identity services
- Hands-on experience with enterprise IAM platforms and technologies including SailPoint, Ping Identity, AWS IAM, Microsoft Entra ID, and enterprise PAM solutions such as BeyondTrust
- Experience designing and implementing integrations with identity providers and enterprise applications using protocols like SAML, OAuth, OIDC, LDAP, and related standards
- Strong analytical, communications, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with engineers, stakeholders, and senior leadership
This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a hybrid work schedule.
The pay range is $180,700 - $244,500.
The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
