Veterinary Assistant – Surgery & Ophthalmology
Denver Veterinary Specialists (DVS) is seeking Veterinary Assistants to join our growing specialty team in Surgery and Ophthalmology. Candidates may apply for either role based on interest, experience and desired location.
- Surgery Veterinary Assistant at our Wash Park location
- Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant at our Lowry location
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new specialty practice from the beginning, with training provided prior to the opening of our Denver locations.
Position Details

- Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant (Lowry)
- Employment Type: Full-time
- Salary: $19.00 - $23.00 / hour, based on experience
- Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
- Availability to work weekends in the future as the practice grows
Training & Location Information
- All hired assistants will complete initial training at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital. Training will continue until the opening of our Denver Veterinary Specialists locations.
- We plan to open our Denver locations with a target opening of June 2026.

Surgery Veterinary Assistant – Wash Park
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant preferred; surgical or anesthesia experience strongly encouraged
- Comfortable handling and restraining patients for procedures and recovery
- Interest in surgery, anesthesia, and specialty medicine
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
- Strong attention to detail and teamwork skills
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with patient preparation for surgery, including pre-operative care and restraint
- Support anesthesia and surgical teams during procedures
- Assist with patient monitoring during anesthesia and recovery
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of surgical and treatment areas
- Clean, pack, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment
- Accurately document patient care as directed
- Collaborate closely with technicians, veterinarians, and support staff
Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant – Lowry
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant preferred; ophthalmology experience welcome but not required
- Comfortable handling and restraining patients for detailed examinations
- Interest in ophthalmology and specialty medicine
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Willingness to learn ophthalmic diagnostics and procedures
Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and technicians during ophthalmic examinations and procedures
- Help perform diagnostics such as tonometry, Schirmer tear tests, and fluorescein staining (training provided)
- Prepare patients and exam rooms for ophthalmology appointments and procedures
- Maintain and clean ophthalmology equipment and instruments
- Support client communication and education as directed
- Accurately document patient care and treatments
- Collaborate closely with the ophthalmology specialty team

Base Pay
$19 - $23 USD
