About the job: We are seeking a dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our Neurology team in a fast-paced specialty and emergency hospital. This role supports board-certified neurologists and experienced technicians in the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care of patients with neurological conditions. In this position, you will play a key role in patient handling, anesthesia support, diagnostics, and client communication. You’ll assist with advanced imaging procedures, surgical preparation, and inpatient care for complex neurological cases such as seizures, spinal cord injuries, and brain disease.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with neurological patient exams and treatments
- Safely restrain and monitor patients during procedures and diagnostics
- Support anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
- Prepare patients and equipment for MRI, CT, and radiographs
- Assist with spinal taps, CSF collection, and other specialty procedures (as trained)
- Provide inpatient care including medication administration, feeding, and comfort support
- Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients regarding patient updates and care instructions
- Clean, organize, and maintain treatment areas and surgical suites
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a veterinary assistant, technician assistant, or animal care role preferred
- Strong handling and restraint skills with dogs and cats; exotics experience a plus
- Comfortable in a high-acuity, specialty or emergency environment
- Ability to remain calm and focused with critical or neurologically impaired patients
- Basic knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and hospital flow
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to learn advanced procedures and specialty diagnostics
Available Schedules
- Wednesday through Saturday
- Monday through Thursday
Salary: $19.00 - $23.00 / hour based on experience
