Communications Manager

San Mateo, CA United States

Who We Are

Verkada is transforming how organizations protect their people and places with an integrated, privacy-sensitive AI-powered platform that includes solutions for video security, access control, air quality sensors, alarms, intercoms, and visitor management.

We’ve got serious momentum in the market: more than 31,000 customers (including 100+ of the Fortune 500), a $5.8B valuation, more than $1 billion in annualized revenue, and backing from CapitalG, Sequoia Capital, General Catalyst, Felicis Ventures, Next47 and more. Physical AI is one of the most consequential technology shifts of our time, and Verkada is at the center of it.

You can look at all kinds of communities to see our platform’s impact in the world. It's the retailer that uses our agentic AI to deter theft before it happens. The warehouse that uses AI-powered alerts to make sure its team is protected on the floor with proper PPE. The school that’s alerted to a threat in real-time and triggers a lockdown in seconds, not minutes. We’re rapidly scaling this impact: today, more than 2 million Verkada devices are deployed across 170+ countries.

We're looking for a Communications Manager who is genuinely passionate about AI’s real-life impact on people and places and wants to communicate Verada’s story with the world. This is someone who knows instinctively where Verkada fits in the news of the day and who understands the importance of communications in earning and maintaining brand trust. You'll join a small but mighty communications team where everyone rolls up their sleeves, owns projects end-to-end, and moves with urgency.

What You'll Do

  • Drive our proactive media strategy across business, technology, trade, and vertical press.
  • Develop vertical narratives that connect Verkada's technology to real problems in the real world (rising retail crime, warehouse safety compliance, school security, healthcare facility management, and more) and pitch them with specificity and conviction to the reporters covering those beats.
  • Build and maintain relationships with reporters covering enterprise tech, AI, physical security, and the industries we serve.
  • Write across formats: press releases, pitches, bylines, briefing documents, messaging frameworks, op-eds, talking points, FAQs.
  • Prepare spokespeople for media with interview prep, message development, and ongoing coaching.
  • Monitor the news cycle and respond quickly and strategically to breaking developments – whether that's a surge in retail crime, a workplace safety incident, or a shift in the regulatory landscape.
  • Use AI tools to do your job better and more efficiently.

What We're Looking For

  • 5-7 years of communications experience in-house at a tech company and/or at an agency with serious B2B/enterprise clients with a strong media relations track record.
  • Vertical storytelling instincts. A fast, credible student of the industries Verkada serves who can understand where our products make an impact and turn that into a pitch.
  • Writing that earns trust. Clear, concise, and human prose, even when explaining a complex or nuanced topic.
  • Sound judgment under pressure. Someone who can prioritize well when everything feels urgent and knows the difference between fast and sloppy.
  • A builder mentality. We're a lean, collaborative team where everyone contributes ideas, owns outcomes, and isn't afraid to experiment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in enterprise SaaS or adjacent B2B verticals.
  • Experience with research-driven storytelling and proprietary data initiatives.
  • Familiarity with crisis communications and issues management.
  • Experience supporting a company through a period of high growth.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
