Position Overview:

This role is a part of the Verra Command Center team or VCC, which is responsible for remote technical support and oversight of roadside monitoring and enforcement implementations across the United States and parts of Canada. VCC is a 24-hour 7 day a week operation that works to ensure enforcement sites are up, operating, and working for our government clients. We work to provide fast and reliable troubleshooting and monitoring for all devices that fall into our scope.The Senior Operations Engineer is a key member of the Verra Command Center (VCC) engineering team, focused on building, integrating, and automating platforms that support the reliability and scalability of roadside operations. This role emphasizes system integrations, platform development, and advanced scripting to reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency.The Senior Operations Engineer partners closely with Operations Technicians, VCC technical Leadership, and other Verra Engineering groups to ensure seamless integration between engineering solutions and day-to-day operations. This position plays a critical role in enabling the VCC to achieve service excellence by developing automation, enhancing system monitoring, and ensuring that roadside products and platforms operate at peak performance.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Systems Integration & Development: Design, develop, and implement integration solutions across multiple platforms, ensuring data, workflows, and monitoring tools interoperate seamlessly.
  • Automation & Scripting: Build and maintain automation tools using Python, PowerShell, C++, other scripting languages and GitHub (revision control) to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and streamline troubleshooting.
  • Collaboration with Operations Teams: Work closely with Operations Technicians and Supervisors to understand frontline needs, translating them into scalable engineering solutions that improve uptime and service quality.
  • Platform Reliability: Develop and maintain monitoring, alerting, and diagnostic tools that ensure roadside equipment and supporting platforms run at peak efficiency.
  • Project Engineering: Lead and contribute to engineering initiatives, including platform rollouts, API integrations, and system upgrades, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and aligned with business goals.
  • Service Excellence: Ensure engineering solutions support SLA compliance and help operations teams deliver consistent, high-quality service.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improved efficiency in system monitoring, incident resolution, and configuration management; design and implement solutions that scale.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Develop detailed documentation, runbooks, and training materials to ensure engineering solutions can be adopted and maintained effectively by operations teams.
  • Cross-Team Participation: Engage in agile ceremonies (daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint planning) to align engineering deliverables with operational needs and company objectives.
  • Incident Support & Escalation: Provide advanced technical support for complex incidents, collaborating with operations teams to resolve issues quickly and permanently.
  • Successful completion of the Nlets fingerprinting background assessment.
  • Must be located in Phoenix, Arizona and will to work a hybrid model.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in system integration, platform development, or operations engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, Java, C++, PowerShell, and other scripting languages for automation, with hands-on experience in GitHub-based development workflows.
  • Experience with Oracle and SQL Server databases for integration, data analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated experience with APIs, system integrations, and automation frameworks.
  • Experience developing web-based applications and working with load balancers is a plus.
  • Preferred experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and their integration with enterprise applications.
  • Proven ability to design and implement tools that improve operational performance, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong collaborative skills with experience working closely with operations teams, translating operational needs into engineering solutions.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), with preferred experience in Power BI, Visio, and Outlook.
  • Agile/Scrum certification (Scrum Master, Product Owner, or Scrum Fundamentals) is preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, 24x7x365 environment.
