DevOps Engineer

Mixed-Cloud Platform & Release Engineering

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer to help build, operate, and continuously improve the CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure that support our mobility products. This is a hands-on individual contributor role responsible for the reliability, security, and velocity of build and release automation across a hybrid environment that includes Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and on-premises data centers.

You will work alongside a team of DevOps engineers, SREs, and release engineers, partnering closely with Software Engineering, QE, Architecture, and Information Security to help hundreds of microservices ship safely multiple times per day. Success in this role is measured by your contributions to deployment frequency, change failure rate, mean time to recovery (MTTR), platform availability, and the security posture of the delivery pipeline.

Essential Responsibilities

CI/CD & Release Engineering

  • Build, maintain, and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines supporting hundreds of microservices and applications, including pipeline-as-code standards, build artifacts, container images, and deployment automation across Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
  • Contribute to measurable improvements in DORA metrics: deployment frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate, and time to restore service.
  • Implement and maintain release patterns (blue/green, canary, feature flags), rollback procedures, and pre-production validation gates.
  • Partner with QE to embed automated testing — unit, integration, contract, performance, and security — into pipelines so that quality is enforced before production.

Hybrid Cloud & Infrastructure Operations

  • Build and operate infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and on-premises data centers, including compute, networking, storage, identity, and connectivity between environments (VPN, ExpressRoute, Direct Connect, peering, and transit).
  • Manage and support Kubernetes (EKS, AKS, and on-prem clusters), container registries, service meshes, ingress controllers, and supporting middleware.
  • Write and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Terraform and platform-native tooling (CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep); participate in drift detection, peer review, and policy-as-code on all infrastructure changes.
  • Support capacity planning, cost optimization (FinOps), and rightsizing efforts across cloud and on-prem footprints.

Observability, Reliability & Incident Response

  • Build and maintain the observability stack — metrics, logs, traces, and synthetic monitoring — and help define SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets for critical services.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and act as an incident responder for production events, contributing to root-cause analysis and tracking corrective actions to completion.
  • Support chaos engineering exercises, game days, disaster recovery testing, and business continuity exercises to validate the resilience of hybrid systems.

Security & Compliance

  • Partner with Information Security to implement shift-left security practices: SAST, DAST, SCA, secrets scanning, container image scanning, and IaC policy scanning in every pipeline.
  • Manage secrets, certificates, and identity infrastructure across cloud and on-prem environments (AWS Secrets Manager, Azure Key Vault, IAM, RBAC).
  • Help maintain audit readiness for SOC 2, PCI-DSS, and other regulatory frameworks applicable to mobility and payments processing by producing evidence of pipeline controls, access management, and change governance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Software Engineering to ensure new services are built with pipeline, observability, and infrastructure templates from day one — not bolted on later.
  • Work with Architecture to align platform direction with the broader technology roadmap, including migrations between legacy and modern platforms.
  • Document runbooks, pipeline standards, and infrastructure patterns so that knowledge is shared across the team.
  • Respond to system issues, participate in high-priority incident calls, and support emergency activities outside of standard hours as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, or Cloud Infrastructure roles.
  • Hands-on experience operating production systems in at least one of the following: AWS, Azure, or on-premises data centers, with an interest in developing depth across a hybrid environment.
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms, specifically Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions (or comparable: Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI), including writing and maintaining pipeline-as-code.
  • Working experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform preferred; CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep, Ansible, Puppet, or Chef a plus).
  • Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes — EKS, AKS, or self-managed) and container build/registry workflows (Docker, ACR, ECR, Harbor).
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation in one or more of: Python, Bash, PowerShell, Go, or TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • Working knowledge of Git workflows, branching strategies, and code review practices.
  • Familiarity with observability tooling such as Datadog, New Relic, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Azure Monitor / CloudWatch.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and respond to production incidents.
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in mobility, transportation, tolling, parking, or other regulated, high-volume transaction-processing environments.
  • Exposure to compliance regimes such as SOC 2, PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, or FedRAMP.
  • Hands-on experience with service mesh, API gateways, or zero-trust networking patterns.
  • Experience with FinOps practices and cloud cost management tooling (CloudHealth, Apptio, native cost explorers).
  • Experience migrating workloads between on-prem and cloud, or between cloud providers.
  • Relevant certifications: AWS Solutions Architect / DevOps Engineer, Azure Administrator / DevOps Engineer Associate, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), HashiCorp Terraform Associate.
  • Familiarity with data and AI/ML platform operations (model registries, feature stores, ML pipelines).

What Success Looks Like in the First 9 Months

  • Within 90 days: ramped up on the team's CI/CD platform, infrastructure, and observability stack across AWS, Azure, and on-prem; owning at least one pipeline or service area independently.
  • Within 6 months: contributing measurable improvements to deployment frequency and change failure rate for owned pipelines; actively participating in the on-call rotation and incident response.
  • Within 9 months: recognized as a go-to contributor for at least one platform domain (CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, observability, or security); mentoring newer engineers and contributing to team standards.
