This is a critical, versatile, and highly organized role responsible for administering core HR functions, including: employee/labor relations, recruiting, health and safety, benefits administration, leave/attendance tracking and payroll. A key focus is ensuring comprehensive labor law and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Handles workforce administration, including disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations, benefits, and leave administration.
Serves as the primary liaison between management and union representatives, requiring strict adherence to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) to foster a productive, working relationship.
Facilitates communication, utilizing excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills, to maintain a stable, compliant and engaged work environment.
Processes and completes necessary documentation for EDD claims (unemployment, disability, etc.) and assists with payroll processing.
Ensures strict adherence to all labor laws and internal company policies.
Helps maintain and update the Employee Handbook and policies to reflect current legal requirements and company standards.
Promptly address and manage workers’ compensation incidents
Handles employee and labor relations matters.
Participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, disputes, and investigations.
Creates and analyzes reports, drafts policies and presentations for staff and management and drafts new contracts.
Provides guidance to employees and managers on company policies, resolves conflicts and addresses grievances with a high degree of confidentiality.
Supports initiatives that promote a positive work environment, such as employee recognition programs, wellness events, and diversity and inclusion (D&I) activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
3+ years of HR experience in a generalist role, with at least 1–2 years in a unionized environment
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
Advanced knowledge with Microsoft office, Google suite and ADP Workforce Now.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Strong understanding of Labor Relations including experience with supporting or participating in contract negotiations, "Just Cause" principles, Weingarten Rights, and the grievance lifecycle.
Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
A proven ability to handle sensitive information with extreme discretion and professional integrity
Ability to manage internal and external correspondence.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with a logical and methodical approach to problem solving
Flexible with the ability to multitask in a highly demanding environment
SHRM-CP or PHR certification is a strong plus
Bilingual in Spanish preferred
