Overview

The role of Senior Engineering Lead at Very Good Ventures is an exciting and critical part of our success strategy. As such, Senior Engineering Leads are the role models of what a great technology consultant looks like, leading by example, managing through hands-on interactions, and developing a world-class team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a hands-on technical contributor in client projects, delivering code that adheres to engineering standards including modularized architecture, 100% test coverage, clear documentation, and visual fidelity.

  • Manage day-to-day operations of engineering teams including project resourcing, deliverables supervision, one-on-ones, performance reviews, and mentorship of direct reports and other engineering managers.

  • Lead and manage engineering team execution through example, establishing best practices, code standards, and delivery excellence during active projects while staying current with technology trends.

  • Lead scoping, estimating, and delivery of high-quality software solutions at scale while managing trade-offs and supporting complex technical implementations.

  • Drive client pursuit activities as a subject matter expert by authoring proposals, delivering pitches and presentations, collaborating on pitch decks and project plans, and scoping projects based on client needs.

  • Build strategic relationships with client engineering leadership (managers, directors, VPs, CTOs) to grow VGV's influence and identify additional value delivery opportunities.

  • Partner with cross-functional delivery teams (Design, Product, Program Management) to anticipate and resolve technical blockers throughout project lifecycles.

  • Develop consultants into world-class professionals by aligning their passions and skills with opportunities, coaching them on the VGV core values, and creating pathways for advancement.

  • Participate in recruitment processes to attract, hire, and retain top talent globally.

  • Manage context switching effectively across multiple concurrent projects while maintaining punctuality and providing detailed status updates.

  • Act as an agent of action and risk-taking, stepping up to deliver above and beyond expectations individually and through team leadership.

  • Actively contribute to thought leadership through professional sharing on preferred channels (meetups, LinkedIn, Twitter), VGV communication channels (blog posts, team presentations), and community engagement (conferences, speaking events, open-source contributions, podcasts).

Requirements

  • 8 to 10  years of professional experience working as a software engineer in a team environment

    • At least 4 years working in a senior/lead capacity

    • Experience working in a consulting environment is highly desirable

  • Fluency in English (level C2 or higher) and Spanish

  • A strategic consulting mindset: display a clear idea of how to improve our consulting practices from our technology execution continually

  • Proven experience owning and leading extremely complex, high-value projects

  • Demonstrate deep technical capabilities and professional knowledge

  • Critical thinking, ability to question decisions and provide creative solutions. 

  • Outstanding organizational skills

  • Ability to handle higher levels of autonomy and uncertainty

  • Ability to assist the director of engineering in supporting Engineering Leads 

  • Strategic Planning and Execution: participate in strategic planning initiatives for the company, providing insights, recommendations, and action plans for achieving business goals

  • A strong desire to create an inclusive environment to teach and mentor engineers and continue growing leaders within the team

  • Demonstrated ability to work across teams and build strong partnerships

  • Proficiency when presenting in public
