About the Position
Vesalius Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative scientist to lead our efforts to assemble data and biospecimens from large cohorts of individuals around the globe. This position will report to the head of platform development and will be responsible for biorepository related activities. This includes directing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the biorepository for clinical data and sample collection and storage. The ideal candidate has experience building a Biorepository Facility from the ground up, including accreditations and policy formation.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the biorepository, including sample collection, sample processing, sample storage, tracking, and distribution. including
- Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, such as biobanks and research institutions, for sample exchange and collaboration
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure the quality, integrity, and traceability of biological specimens. Implement and maintain a robust quality control program with regular monitoring, audits, and corrective actions as needed.
- Coordination of regulatory, legal, logistical, and ethical aspects of human specimen use. This includes ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, such as FDA, HIPAA, and other relevant guidelines, with attention toward data security
- Accountability to senior leadership for all aspects of collection. Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for all repository related aspects of the biorepository
- Review and approve reports and deliverables such as activities and metrics, overall sample capacity, SOPs, QA plans, billing, finances, pricing, freezer utilization, overall sample capacity, quarterly operations reports, and maintenance reports
- Stay up-to-date with advancements and best practices in biorepository management and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
Qualifications
- PhD in a biological discipline with at least 8 years of relevant program management experience in an industry or academic setting. Further qualifications, including professional qualifications in management and operations, strongly preferred.
- Previous experience managing national and international collaborative programs involving human specimens.
- Proven experience in biorepository management in industry or academic setting.
- Proficient in using biorepository management software/BLIMS and other relevant software applications
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment with a sense of urgency and creativity and focus on deliverables.
- Team player with a strong work ethic, able to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Continuously learns and adapts quickly to new information.
