Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Portfolio Analyst for our advisory business, Vestwell Advisors. This role is integral to Vestwell’s ability to achieve our service and revenue growth goals for the next several years, encompassing both our existing products and any new products we bring to market. 

This role is best suited for a person who is highly interested in portfolio analysis, asset management, refinement, execution and due diligence of our existing investment products.

The individual in this Portfolio Analyst role will support the Senior Portfolio Manager to strategically scale and refine Vestwell’s investment offerings. They will actively collaborate to design and implement robust investment strategies and monitor existing portfolios through thoughtful analysis, diligent reporting, and creative thinking. This role is critical for positioning Vestwell to offer a superior portfolio of investment solutions that meet the needs of a variety of savers.

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of the asset management industry, economy, equity and fixed income markets. They will excel in managing multiple projects under time constraints, maintaining constant communication with various teams, and demonstrating a commitment to meeting deadlines with extreme attention to detail. Leveraging their understanding of investment management processes, they will drive continuous refinement, evolution, and execution of our investment products and services.

What Will You Be Doing?

Here are the top 5 high-level goals for the Portfolio Analyst's first year:

Investment research and market analysis: The Portfolio Analyst will monitor market dynamics and macroeconomic trends to ensure portfolios are optimally aligned with the firm’s market outlook. This involves staying informed of market conditions, analyzing economic data, and assessing capital market assumptions to effectively manage client assets. The analyst will maintain strong relationships with fund providers and data vendors, regularly participating in due diligence calls and market outlook webinars to stay well-informed of market movements and performance of underlying funds. 

Portfolio analytics and reporting: The Portfolio Analyst will support the Senior Portfolio Manager in ensuring all client portfolios align with clients' financial goals and risk tolerance, which involves continuously reviewing and adjusting portfolios to maximize returns while managing risk. They will build and maintain detailed investment reports which may include historical portfolio performance, attribution, risk metrics, and underlying fund characteristics. They will conduct in-depth assessments at both the total portfolio as well as underlying fund levels. They will also review potential new investment opportunities, supporting investment decision-making with robust financial modeling and scenario analysis.  

Client communication and presentations: Regular communication with clients is a key aspect of the role. The analyst will prepare clear and insightful presentations and reports on portfolio performance, market trends, and investment strategies. They will participate in meetings with clients to discuss their investment objectives, provide updates, and address any questions or concerns.

Marketing and sales collaboration: The Portfolio Analyst will collaborate closely with the marketing and sales teams to develop and execute strategies that promote the firm's wealth management capabilities. This involves participating in strategy meetings, contributing to marketing materials, and assisting in the development of campaigns aimed at attracting new clients and retaining existing ones. The analyst will also support sales efforts by providing relevant data and investment insights during client acquisition activities.

Smooth transition of client assets: Ensuring a seamless transition of client assets with sub-advisors is a critical part of the role. The analyst will support the transition process, coordinating with stakeholders to maintain continuity and minimize disruptions. They will refine processes to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of these transitions, ensuring that all client assets are managed smoothly and in accordance with their investment plans.

By focusing on these key activities, the Portfolio Analyst will play a crucial role in managing and growing client assets, optimizing portfolios, maintaining strong client relationships, and supporting the firm's marketing and sales efforts to achieve long-term success.

YOUR BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE WILL INCLUDE: 

The Necessities:

  • At least 3-5 years of proven experience in investment analysis or portfolio management, ideally within multi-asset class and risk-based investment models.
  • Progress toward, completion of, or commitment to pursue professional designations such as CFA or CAIA is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with investment reporting, performance measurement, and financial modeling.
  • Understanding of fixed income and equity markets, with demonstrated capability in asset allocation strategy and portfolio construction. An understanding of alternative asset classes is a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with proven ability to drive operational efficiencies and scalable processes.
  • Strong analytical skills and systems-thinking approach, demonstrated through successful resolution of complex investment challenges.
  • 3+ years of experience working in fast-paced start-up environments, with comfort navigating ambiguity and commitment to continuous learning.
  • Proven ability in delivering impactful presentations to senior-level prospective clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating closely with senior management to set strategic directions and develop actionable, tactical plans to achieve business objectives.
  • Comfort and willingness to engage in tactical, hands-on tasks as required; a collaborative team player who contributes at multiple levels.

This role could be based in our New York, NY office or King of Prussia, PA office and will be part of Vestwell's hybrid in-office operation.

The expected base salary range for this position is $90K - $100K base. This position is eligible to participate in the Company Bonus Pool and is eligible to receive new hire equity in the Company. Please note that salary bands are based on New York and other similar metro areas and may differ based on where the role is ultimately hired.
